My First Spinning Class...

PinkPanther

New member
Last night I attended my first spinning class ever. I really liked it a lot. My butt is quite sore this morning!! I was just wondering how many of you spin, how many times a week, etc. Also, would this be considered HIIT? I wasn't sure because it is like 45 minutes long, but we do increase/decrease intensity quite a bit throughout the 45 minutes. Thanks for any feedback :)

i have gone to spin off and on for years. i love it too, just don't have time to work it in to my schedule consistantly. i especially loved 5:30 a.m. class, and attending it faithfully until it was discontinued.

you're butt will get used to the seat after 2 or 3 sessions. the second time is always murder. the third isn't so bad. i'd suggest investing in a gel seat. it's worth the money(around $15).

stick with it...

I've been taking a 5 AM spin class every Wednesday for the past few months. They haven't had class for the past 3 weeks because they are putting in hardwood floors (:) yaaaay).

I hate it! No, actually it kicks my butt! My butt does get sore but I just bought a cheapie gel seat at Wal-Mart for $9...so I can't wait to try it out.

As far as HIIT goes, it is probably pretty close, but it really depends on the instructor's format. Sometimes we do intervals...and about once a month we do threshhold training (keeping a level 7 or higher the entire time--using a scale of 1-10). All I know is I am exhausted afterwards!

nonerz - do you have padded bike shorts? they're awesome. i do a lot of mountain biking and after a long day on the trails, my whole body will be sore, but my butt will feel great....it's like sitting on a pillow :)

no...I picture myself feeling like I'm wearing a diaper...

I can't even handle pads...feels too bulky in my chonies!

it is a bit like wearing a diaper...but it does really work!! :)

one of the best investments i've made in exercise clothing.

YW.....

out of curiosity, i checked out the specialized site for shoes on sale. saw that they had my 01 mountain sports on closeout.......for $20. the sizes were limited, but still.....you might get lucky. i've had my pair for almost 3 years. they're great.

I've seen them from $50-$100+. I wasn't aware that you need seperate clips. I think my gym has the type where you just snap them in...not sure though.

i'm not sure what pedals they use at your gym. but let's see if i can explain what they use at mine.......

the pedals have toe clips(that your toes just slip into, and you wear regular shoes), and the metal lock in clips. the pedal has the female part of the clip. the bike shoes have the male part of the clip. however, most bike shoes don't come with the male part in the box. that is purchased separately, and are sold at mist bike shops. the male part of the clip screws into the sole of the shoe.

anyway.....i'm not trying to be a know-it-all. just sharing what i've experienced.
