so i got laid off from lucent technologies yesterday. that sort of sucks in and of itself, but i knew it was coming. or, rather i knew i was at risk. what's fucked up is that usually, my boss (the operations area manager) will get to choose what supervisors (me) have to get cut in the event of a cutback. well, this time, the upper levels decided to do it like when they cut technicians. they just went by time in service. and i hadn't even been there a year yet. my boss tried to offer up another one in my place and expressed his disapproval at the mandatory list, but the uppers just said "oh well. thanks for the input, but no thanks."
not trying to pat my own back, but i was lucky to get that position, so i went in there hard-charging at kicked alot of ass early on. my bosses were constantly telling me how quickly i picked shit up, and technicians who wouldn't work well for others gave me 100%, because i could put aside being their boss and would act as a freind if they needed it. on my last night at a certain job site, they revolted and took their break 1 1/2 hours early to take me for a beer. being on the clock, they all could have gotten fired. not so much me, b/c they're bound by union contract to be on the job site for the whole shift. i don't have to report anywhere in particular. the lead tech was all raising a toast to me and shit, and i was getting kind of embarrassed, telling them to knock that shit off.
this fucking company's trying to improve its financial state, and yet they won't let an OAM get rid of any worthless supervisors who are probably costing the company more that they're making. instead i get it b/c i happen to have been there for less time. GRRRRRRRRRRR!
side bar- i hope that drzzt8 is doing o.k. i was there once, although not actually catching her so red handed. it does, at the time, seem that nothing could be worse. i understand. keep rolling, guy. she'll get hers when it's all said and done. trust me.
