We had the dog and the cat spending 2 weeks in a kennel while we were on vacation. They told us the dog died suddenly of a twisted stomach.
RIP Chestnut, aka "Chester" an awesome 7 year old chocolate lab.
jnuts said:I never heard of a twisted stomach before, but after a quick search on google, I found what it is. It's not that common, but it does happen. Plus, the vet had X-rays of Chester and knew what the cause was. Not much we could do after that.
jnuts said:It was a major bummer and a bit of a shock. The vet had called to leave us a message, but in the two weeks we were gone, his message had been erased. I brought the 2 kids with me when we went to get the animals. Luckily they had enough sense to pull me into a room to let me know what happened. Utter shock. I had to tell the kids the dog was going to stay another day. After we got home I told my daughter (6 yo) what happened. She took it kinda hard, but my wife took it real hard.

if you do, get a border collie.
pitbullstl said:Sorry for your loss.....Labs are the best dogs......we have three,a Lab/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, a Lab/Rottweiler mix, and a Lab/Pitbull mix.......they are the greatest dogs in the world.....because we have three it's always been to expensive to board them....so we pay someone to stay here at the house with them as we are usually gone one week out of the month.....that is the best solution if you have someone you can trust.....good luck with the new pup, and R.I.P. Chester
