My Arm is STILL Sore!

Sunday, August 31st, I went to Boomer's, a miniature golf, go-cart, laser tag kinda place. I hit up the rock wall first (no line) and then off to the go-cart track. It was a lot of fun.

Before we left for the night, I wanted to try out the hardest rock wall there...it was really difficult! The first time...only made it about 1/3 of the way up (or even less). Second time, got further (maybe 1/2). Third time...I took my time and really worked it! I got to a point where I couldn't reach the next hold without jumping (I'm only 5'5")...so I jumped and got that damn thing! Amazingly enough, I made it to the last two holds...they were right there...and I reached up...

DAMMIT! I couldn't get a good hold on it and slipped. I think I gave the wall my blessings on the way down...:finger: I was so tired...sweaty and everything!

My forearms were sore a couple days after so I attributed it to my fight with the wall. MY LEFT ARM IS STILL SORE!! If you hold your left hand out in front of you, palms down and flex your hand up and back toward your face, the specific area is the the top of your arm...not the lower inside...I don't know the name of that muscle (help me out Nate). I've been massaging it somewhat, but it is still buggin. I do work on a computer for most of the day, so that probably aggravates the situation. Any rock climbers out there know if...is this normal? I've only done the rock wall thing once before and it wasn't nearly as difficult.

Sounds to me like you have awoken muscles that may have lyed dormant for a while.

Have nate massage it outfor you. It will not be a nice massage persay but it may alleviate your pain.

Calf, ab, and forearm pain tends to linger quite a bit...and is like none other.

I was informed the other day that I didn't have the body type for a rock climber :bawling:

Lots of upper back, relatively thin, and world class pinching power in the hands.

I agree...

There goes my chances for being a stellar rock climber!

You know what...screw that! It's still fun and a great workout! Not to mention the challenge!

Nonerz-- Tom Magee-- 6'5", 240lbs..world record PLr & one of the best climbers I know...its not about being "thin".. .its more agility, coordination & strength.

A lot of people underestimate the leg power needed to rock climb. If you use all arms, you will rarely make it up the rock. Nonerz, did the rock have a "difficulty" on it (5.10, etc)? If you were doing dynamic movements on the rock (ie jumping, called "dynos") it may have been above your skill level (no flame intended). I personally climb quite a bit, and I will get a pain similar to what you are describing after some time off (3-4 weeks) when I try to jump right back in at the same level I was before the layoff. Just try and rub it out...you should be OK. Certainly isn't abnormal IMO.

I had to jump to reach one of the holds...and it was definitely above my skill level since I've only done the easy, easy ones a couple times before! There was no posted rating on it, but it was the hardest one of the bunch. The other ones were just too easy.

My legs are pretty strong and I figured out the "using your legs" part pretty quickly. It is finally subsiding and feels okay now. I have been rubbing it out and making Nate massage it for me too! :) I'll do anything for tactile!

Glad the pain is subsiding. Not to be sexist, but most women figure out the using their legs part MUCH faster than men from my experience. A lot men think they are so bad ass that they can just use upper body to pull all the way up. And they learn the hard way (like I did).;)
