I know what I meant by my post and it was not to suggest that every straight boy fond of using the word "faggot" with his friends is a repressed homosexual. But the fact you discern something below the surface argues your own point; see below.
ok
My point, as it was relevant to the general objections you raised, is that language carries meanings and can cause effects that can be quite apart from our conscious intentions. And that appears to be exactly what happened in my own statement. So I hope you might likewise notice that use of the word faggot might "insinuate" (your word) something that you can't quite accept or perceive. Or am I to presume your interpretation is somehow clearer and free of insinuation?
i agree 100%. and i hope you might understand that i would never use those words in a context around people that may in the least offend that person. if i was aware that there was a homosexual present in the group then i would not call my friend a faggot. so that covers your question as to my use of the word insinuating something.
Whether someone thinks it is worthwhile to examine how they might be affecting other people with their language, regardless of the motivations to which they lay claim, is a personal choice.
it is worthwhile.
In the way we should be able to talk about the homoerotic aspect of bodybuilding without the necessary assumption that all bodybuilders are gay, we ought to be able to talk about the use of the word faggot without the a priori assumption that it isn't perpetuating a stereotype regardless of our itentions.
