Muscle soreness

This is a little off topic however I wanted to get some quick answers.
I just started training a new guy that hasnt worked out in quite sometime. he had shoulder surgery. Anyways he is getting terribly sore and we have took it very slow and easy. He told me he read somewhere coffee really helps with recovery? I have never heard of this can anyone elaborate? Also any other little tricks I can throw his way to help him recover. I have told him all the obvious stuff. Just wanted to find out about the coffee remedy more than anything.
Thanks
EB

youre being responsible by going slow. the soreness is bad because of the long layoff and the repaired shoulder. it will get better over time but could take awhile. youre moving at the right speed though. good lead for your friend.

Ive heard coffe is good for the liver, but never heard anything about coffee and sholder recovery.... Google?? :)

Stop any violent Masturbating, and then what everybody else said.
Swimming helps my shoulders tremendously. STIM if it's available is awesome too

tell him to make the gf give him regular in-depth massages to get rid of the soreness faster. It'll work and also lead to a lot of extra sex if he's going about things right ;)

HAHA For sure massages are great for getting some ass. I told him its just gonna take a couple months before he can go all out and not get that sore. It just takes time in this game,

muscle soreness is caused by lactic acid build up. until your body gets used to flushing this out quickly the soreness will last a little longer than one would like. i wish i could still get that sore (mine only lasts for a little bit now), it makes me feel like i'm doing something. the best thing is to eat as much protein and complex carbs as he can as said before. staying hydrated allows for better flushing of the system but i assume you told him this already.

you can fix him but it will take 3 1 hour sessions for the next 6 weeks.

payment in advance..

don't do push movements, work the back and nothing overhead..

concentrate on the legs as well..

I have a guy like that, but no soreness, he is so "deConditioned" i've just never seen anything like it.. after 2 months i have him finally able to incline press 125 lbs.. but it is progress..

The coffee thing is all about caffeine. Caffeine somehow eases joint and other inflamatory type pains. Notice that some pain relieve otc drugs have it in the mix. It might be helpful. Sounds like you are being careful, that's good!

On the topic of general soreness... Some people talk about how they don't get sore anymore or only after a layoff. I always get sore after a good hard workout. I can be on a lot of "stuff" and still get sore. I don't consider it a good workout if I don't get some DOMS. Usually it creeps in about 24 hrs after my workout and lasts from one to three days. If I've tried something new that works really well it will last a week. Did decline benches for lower chest on Tues and they're still sore today (sat, 1:30 am). Is that weird?
