LOL...okay, that was good enough.
This is pretty personal, and don't know why I'm going over it again in my mind, but here goes.
When I was 15, my mom, my dad, and I went on a vacation to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon. We were gone about a week and a half....saw it and then proceeded to head up to four corners. Well, we were in a little town called Page, AZ...I was asleep, mom was driving...all of a sudden, I woke up to my dad screaming my mom's name. I sat upright and as soon as I did, I saw a hat flying.
The van (an '88 Dodge Ram van) went about 50 more feet and stopped. I was freakin' out...didn't know what to do. Mom and dad immediately got out of the van. I put my shoes on...got out and mom was running around screaming. There was a white truck right beside our van and in the back of it was a little boy (about 5 yrs. old or something) and he was screaming "Daddy, daddy." I had NO clue what was going on...
The lady was screaming at my mom...and then all of a sudden got back in the car and drove off...that was the last we saw of her. I then turned around and saw an American Indian laying there in front of the van. I was in such shock that I walked all the way up to him and just stared. My dad was running around saying "your mom is going to go crazy...help..."
The man was mangled and bloody. Truly a gory site. It was like I was outside of myself. Turns out this man had been drunk (3Xthe legal limit) and had gotten in a fight with his wife (the lady screaming). He had said he was going to go out and commit suicide. We just happened to be driving by when he decided to jump out in the middle of the road.
I don't know if the man was alive or not, but if he was he never would have made it...the life flight helicopter took about 45 minutes to get there. It was the most devestating and enlightening (I'll explain that one in a second) experience in my entire life.
It was then and there that I decided I wanted to be a flight nurse. I did not want anyone to go through what I had been through, and I am willing to go the distance to save everyone's life that I can.
Geez....that's kind of a depressing story.
