Just FYI...Methylcellulose is an ingredient in Component T-H and is NOT toxic. They even use this in some OTC cough syrup. I wouldn't want to drink the stuff by the gallon but the amounts in T-H don't seem to pose any threat.

Methyl Cellulose
Methyl cellulose is a great product for backcoating. It's a totally inert so there are no adverse effects from using it. It can be found in places that you might not expect, like in cough syrup as a thickener. It also won't eat into any surfaces, so if you get it on your hands, clothes, baby, etc., no problem. It washes right out with water.

I'm not sure if anyone said "toxic", but I've seen quite a few threads in the past where people are worried about "glue" this and "glue" that and just thought it might be helpful to point out that almost everyone has already ingested "MC" before- probably in larger quantities than T-H contains- so don't worry about "glue"...

good point AD

Someone may have taken "glue" or "Binder" literally. Those are relative terms. I seriously hope nobody thinks they're injecting funkin elmers or krazy glue with their fina!!!

LOL

I work in the refractories industry (high temp ceramic materials) and we make materials that are mixed with water and gunned onto surfaces. Methacell or as stated above is simply a type of coaggulant and thickens up solutions. We use it because it has enough strength to hold the shit on the wall for the instant in which we are waiting for the cement to go 'off'.

I would assume that it is used to hold your gear suspended in the solution at a relatively constant concentration. That is, so it won't settle out to the bottom.

You don't need very much to get this effect. A good way, I guess, to test out how much, is to chuck some baby powder in water (same quantities as gear) and keep adding the Methacell until it stays relatively suspended.

Better check to make sure it is safe to inject though first. I have never used fina nor have I looked into the process, so if I am off the track, please ignore my ranting.
