Mr Olympia challenge round-

MsBeverlyHills

New member
did any of you guys see the final round in the O where each compet. had to challenge another guy to the same pose? this was a new round they added & alot of pros, BBdrs @ the gym are pissed!! they think it takes away from the integrity of the Mr O to make it more of a dog and pony show.

what do you guys think? they want to publish some opinnions in the next MD on this so ill add your guys. thanks :)

I didn't like it. It was more of a sideshow act than a competition. Especially with Triple H doing the commentary.

It was like the catwalk scene from Zoolander.

Why are they pissed off? Are they jealous? It is a competition. So WTF does dog and pony show mean. It was only for the top 6 anyway. I think it was kinda cool. I think they are just trying to livin it up a bit. Made for some good side by side comparisons.

Its the way to go i think. Most people are fed up with the Mr.O as it is. Seeing as it seems to be impossible to dethrone a reigning Mr.O. So i guess they are trying out new recipies to keep the crowd happy.

The challenge round is the only reason i want to get the DVD when it gets out.

hey maxpain (good name btw)- they were pissed for a couple reasons- Ronnie winning all the ab/quad rounds for starters & the scoring based on crowd participation not acutally judging-- stuff like that.

Ronniw winning the ab/thigh contest was only because of his legs. His abs are horrible compared to the others. The seperation between them looks like the San Andreas fault line.

I saw some pics posted on Muscle Mayhem. Ronnie has some huge legs and his midsection was lot more cut that in previous years. It is a ab/THIGH pose. Go there and look at those pics. Tell me your opinion. I am not a IFBB judge but Ronnie looked pretty damn good to me on those poses. The crowd has a influence on the judges. That is nothing new in BB. even without the new round.

The entire "contest" is corrupt so it really doesn't matter what the hell they choose to do because everything is clearly pre-destined.

As for the callout challenge, I think that's a pretty good idea because it adds to the intensity and drama since some guy is actually calling another guy out. Then you can really compare and scrutinize the differences between the two. There is nothing better then a challenge and seeing if the challenged one can rise to the occassion. It's also cool to see who they each challenge and perhaps feel threatened by, which can cause a good rivalry.

On one hand it would reduce the bitching you hear about how the judges favor so and so and don't want to compare him to me because I am so much bigger, leaner, more proportional, etc. Also it would reduce the purely subjective call outs the judges give.

On the other hand I think it is rediculous because there will be like five guys all wanting to challenge the same person. This is unfare to the one as he will have to pose more than others and eventually won't be at his best which could change the placing overall even though he won against everyone else throughout the other rounds.

All in all I don't favor this idea as it makes it into a spectacal of backstabbing and whining. People need to face the fact that when they don't get called out to pose against the top three guys there is probably a good reason for it. Judging will never be perfect as bodybuilding is a purely subjective sport. There are guidelines for judging but in the end it comes down to who the judges are. You get a panel that likes total mass monsters and a guy like Kovaks is a sure win. You take a panel that loves symmetry and lines and guys like Flex take it. In any sport where there is room for interpretation someone is always going to get their feelings hurt. Well they need to grow up and take what they get without bashing everyone like an eight year old that just got scolded for eating cookies between lunch and dinner.

Cheers,
Scotsman

Yeah saw them as well. He looked good on his ab/thigh pose. Better than i would have belived.

I like the idea of it, if it actually meant something. It allows you to see direct comparisons between guys you might not have otherwise. In theory it's kind of a put up or shut up kind of thing.
