The issue I took with the Vick case was the pentalties applied.

Some people tried to say the pentalties were not for the dog abuse and killing, but that was what drove people to get so passionate about the case (as you can see in this thread alone, people focus on the dog abuse, not the conspiracy and gambling).

I think Vick, because of his status and celibrity, was made an example of, and I do not, and NEVER will support a mob mentality when it comes to governing the citzens of this country. To me that is far more irresponsible and harmful than torturing and killing dogs.

Now can you understand how someone can love dogs (and I'd loved dogs more than some people) yet still be a Michael Vick supporter?

WE dont have a bunch of empirical data to look over the size of his operation v others, but I think the size and scope of what he did to further his dogfighting ring were just as much of a factor. I think it's like ~$419 this year for the 5 mountain pass... At least it was. I know prices go up as it gets closer to the regular season, and you can only buy the 5 mountain pass up to a certain date... not sure when that is, though.

We could just as easily be arguing over the penalties for drug posession, or sale. Or how about the DUI penalties. Some people think they are extreme, some people think they are too tough! How do you decide? A lot of it is person opinion.

I've said it before on here, but if I was making the laws, or I should say, the punishments, I would do the following to Michael Vick:
Fine him. Because of the gambling and conspiracy I'd say a mid to high six figure fine is appropriate.
I'd give him a thousand or so hours of community service, specicially make him work at dog shelters. This is a LOT of time, it would be full time work for 6 months. Its not trivial.
Because of his celebrity, I'd have him do public service announcements for the SPCA and other animal right's groups.
I'd make it illegal for him to breed dogs again, EVER or to own more than 2.


I'd stop short of jail time. Here is why.
He has no prior convictions.
The dollar amount associated with the gambling was low.

The guy fucked up. He's young and stupid. Comes from the south where dog fighting was a "cool" thing to do and he found himself in a position to be able to be a big player in it. Poor judgement on his part, cruel to the animals involved, and makes me sick.

I do a little bit of everything. Blues, blacks. stay away from moguls. Hit the park when I need a bit of a break. Like tree runs. Like wide groomers too if they are fast. Backcountry stuff is always fun when you can find it and there's powder.

I usually ride at Mammoth. Its huge as well. I've also been to Whistler a couple of times, that place is massive.
