To play devil's advocate, the fact that we havent found any WMDs is completely moot. They refused to turn over documents, allow unconditional inspections, etc.

The UN resolution required Iraq to permit unconditional inspections alone with unfettered access to documents and staff pertaining to their weapons programs. They did not comply, hence retribution was warranted.
The question isnt whether or not they actually had WMD. Remember, 7th grade...

Technically, according to UN resolutions, military action was sanctioned by the UN. If you wanna dig even deeper, the US has technically been in a state of war with Iraq 90 days after the end of the first Gulf War, when they refused to comply with conditions of our cease-fire agreement including UN inspectors being allowed to personally witness the destruction of all banned weapons and weapon technology.
