I am looking to get into the field of personal training. I have been training for almost 11 years and i figure I might as well do something I am passionate about. I would like to get certified but I am not sure what assocaition is the best. I see there are like 4 or 5 good ones. Anyone know which are the most unverisall respected and accepted throughout the nation?

NSCA - Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)

ACSM - Health/Fitness Instructor (HFI)

My understanding is that these are the only two worthwhile certs if you are serious about this as a career. Both require you to be CPR certified, have at least a Bachelors degree, and take an extremely comprehensive exam. The other certs are fine if you want to work at Bally's for $9/hour.

ISSA may not need a degree....also to be a personal trainer, NSCA offers a CPT certification which is not the CSCS and I don't think you need a degree for a CPT

I would say NSCA, ISSA, and ACSM are the best

NSCA if you are gonna do it will open the most doors for you, they have a strength and conditioning specialist and a certified fitness trainer......you need a minimun of a bachelor's degree, it does not matter in what field as long as it is a BA or BS from an accredited institute. I am actually considering it paying for the course, I would love to be a strength coach for a major college or an NFL team

ACE also has a good certification!!!

It's good if you want to work at a chain gym as a personal trainer.

But if you want to work as a trainer for college/professional/olympic athletes or if you want to work with top bodybuilders and powerlifters, the CSCS is the only way to go.

It depends on what you want.
