Seems to me the definition of the most important job is who will be noticed first if their job isn't done, and how quickly will the effects of their not DOING their job be seen.
So in that vein, mothers, particularly those of children under 2 years of age, get my vote.
Second place, garbage men. I mean, seriously, who of average people really knows WHAT the people at NASA do? On the other hand, the whole city goes fucking bugshit if the garbage sits on the curb too long ... and god forbid if they aren't out there driving the snow plows in the winter, 24/7.
And frankly, since most politicians are brain dead already nothing's already getting done on a pretty steady basis in Capitol Hill what would really change if any politico goes missing

Important for WHO/WHAT?
I imagine, anything could be deemed the most important job out there - it can depend on where you are in life and what is most important to YOU.
In my opinion, the most important job *I* can do is raise my daughter to the best of my ability. The next most important job I can do is to help my 57 kindergarteners learn to read!
