Most Britons back military action - poll
2:43pm Sunday, 09th March 2003
A significant majority of the British public now believe military action must be used to remove Saddam Hussein from power.
An ICM poll for the News of the World found 68% now back military action, with only 22% opposing the use of force.
Less than a fortnight ago, another ICM poll revealed 52% opposed military action in Iraq.
However, 77% of those who support war against Iraq said there must be a second UN resolution.
Only 15% of the public would support war without one.
An overwhelming majority of those questioned - 84% - said Saddam should be removed from office.
But the poll suggested the public remained critical of the Prime Minister Tony Blair. A small majority - 53% - disapproved of his handling of the Iraqi crisis. Only 29% approved.
ICM interviewed 758 adults for the poll on Friday and Saturday.

i suspect europe will follow suit as well.....ananova presented this differently, sayingh that most britons were for a war which strictly speaking isn;t true
i dont get the public though...
if there isnt a resolution, it could be due to France's automatic veto regardless of the merits of the arguement
if there is a resolution there will more than likely be some manipulation/bribery/threats on the US+co's part (i.e. cutting funding to some ofthe countries on the council), thereby illegitamising the resolution
as a result tony blair and the US are going mental trying to force a resolution, even now there are members of his giovernment resigning with a further 120+ members of parliment stating they will vote against him (making him need right wing votes if there is a vote)
whats a PM to do?
