Morpheus

Slice of Peach2

New member
I heard this morning that the "Record Industry" is going to go after Morpheus next!

Does the "Record Indutry" really think they are going to stop MP3 sharing?

Puh-lease!

Maybe they shouldn't charge so damn much for CDs that only have one song on them that people like. :xeye:

That is why I use Morpheus so I don't have to get 14 crappy songs that I don't like just to have the one song I do like. I like burning my own CDs. :) I like variety!

are you trying to imply that file sharing programs should be legal?

musicians have every right to be pissed about them.

They will never completely stop file sharing, so they might as well quit wasting time and money on lawsuits.

If the "Record Industry" wants to start it's own file sharing and charge a nominal fee, I would go for that.

I did not say it should be legal, just not so illegal.

Of course musicians have a right to be paid.

But the record industry is just a bunch of sappy middlemen in sleek looking suits.

A bands cut is maybe $1 a cd anyway. So like 8 cents a song. If someone could design something where this would go directly to the band, I think practically everyone would support it besides the record labels.

actually, most bands won't even get close to a full dollar per cd. they deal in "points", or percentage points per sale. a new band will be talking over deals as low as 2 or 3 points.

well i don't think signed musicians are lacking for money... indy guys like myself might be hurt by it... so therefore we give it away for free just to be heard. it's all about greed. there are too many pieces of the pie out there and everyone wants theirs. i blame lawyers really. here you can go download my music for free right now... if you like what i do burn it to a cd and give it to your friends, if you really like what i do, buy my cd from the webpage and not for $17.99 either but for $8 because there is no record company to get their share... i wish more artists would do this.

in case you don't know how the recording industry works here's a simple explanation.

i charge $8 formy CD on mp3.com, i get $4 from each purchase plain and simple.

britney spears record company charges $17.99 for her CD and then it gets divied 1800 ways before she will eventually maybe make $0.75 off of CD sales.

i will support indy musicians because of several reasons, one of which there is no focus group telling me how to make my music appeal to today's youth. There is no focus group telling me the difference in the fonts that i use on my album cover will mean more sells....

ugh i am gonna stop now before i go on ranting for a few hundred pages... just go download the CD and shoot me an e-mail if you like it, hate it, or are otherwise indifferent.

The record companies have made LAME attempts to address this issue by allowing you to buy a single mp3. BUT they charge $2-3.00 PER SONG!!! What idiot is gonna buy one mp3 (which has poorer sound quality than a cd) for $3!!!! That works out to $36 for a cd worth of 'legal' songs.
They are shooting their own foot by not pricing mp3's at a realastic level.
Greedy bastards.

Well, depending on the encoding of the mp3, it can be CD quality... I believe 256kps is CD quality, but I'm not certain. However, if you can tell the difference between "CD quality" and "near CD quality," you'd have to be some kind of mutant.

The recording industry is truly a ripoff. I saw Metallica's "Kill 'Em All" on sale last week for $16. That album is almost as old as I am and the band who made it has only half of its members still part of the band. SIXTEEN BUCKS? I'm not eating out of dumpsters or anything, but fuck you if you think I'm going to spend $16 for a CD - even though all 8 songs are awesome.

Fortunately for me, I download all of my Classical music from Morpheus. No one can bitch to me about stealing money from the composers because almost all of them are dead. They were poor as fuck when they were alive despite creating some of the best music the world has ever known, yet these talentless fucks like Britney Spears and countless rappers live as millionaires for polluting humanity's youth with their garbage.

Petty little humans.

I use FTP sites...
I get live shows... and rare music. I do not like radio music.. or that stuff that gets played all the time.. so Napster and Morphus are not much use to me.

But FTP Sites... are AWESOME!
