hey... what's the final verdict?
cos i did a search and it seems half the people say you should get more protein and the other side say eat more carbs
im confused

Yeah, pretty much what Cure said. Eat shitloads of both. Hell, eat shitloads of everything. Fat won't kill you. Carbs won't kill you. Protein won't kill you. Eat 'em all!

From trial and error I've come to the same conclusion as Cure and Grizzly. 40% protein, 40%carbs, and 20% fat seems to be best at minimizing fat gains while bulking. Usually my gains end up being about 1/3 fat and 2/3 muscle.

You will never grow up with 40/40/20 diet...If you are bulking you need to keep your carbs 60-65 % and up to 20 % carbs ....I will repeat...you will never grow up on 40/40/20 .......

That's completely wrong! Wrong, wrong, wrong! Look at the perfect example of the 40-40-20...Arnold Schwarzennegger. Of course, I suppose he never really grew up and it was an illusion. :finger: I will add, however, that if you need extra calories, I would up the carbs before anything. Get your baseline protein 300-500 depending upon bodyweight and then add in carbs and fat until you hit your desired caloric intake. I've utilized the 40-40-20 many times and I've always been pleased. However, recently, my carbs have been much higher than my protein and I'm liking that too. Mainly because I just need an extra 500-1000 calories and that's the most convenient method for me. Tastiest, too. So, now, I guess I'm on a 50-30-20 diet.

60-65% carbs..Ah yea

I would start out doing the 40/40/20 then if gains don't come work your way up to a 30/50/20. Depending on what your diet is now I would start out at 350 calories a day over maintenance levels then work you way up from there.

don't forget to keep doing some mild cardio, it's a good way to minimize fat gains also.

carbs are definetly the most important nutrient in a true bulking cycle.

Arnold has spent his whole bodybuilding life on anabolic steroids. In that case 40/40/20 works great. But dont forget he's fucked up his heart and who knows what else. But we will hear that soon.He is sick..
My 02 ......

When you consume many calories (up to 4000) go for 40-40-20.
50-30-20 can work too but it depends on how your body reacts to carbs.(bloating,'slin sensitivity etc)

Absolute calories are the most important factor, 40-40-20 has worked for me in the past but once I get my 240-300 grams of protein more carbs are better because they're cheaper than protein and just as effective, since I've already met my protein allowance. However, some are less insulin sensitive and a greater protein intake will help minimize some of the fat gain for an insulin insensitive person.

Okay...I guess the muscle I've gained is some sort of sci-fi hologramatic illusion. Damn. I was just getting to the point where I thought I looked decent too. Thanks for setting me straight.

If you are alredy chubby you should go to check you blood shugar level. When bulking i can strongly recomend to everybody to see the doctor. If you are not chubby you dont have to worry about your carbs too much becouse when bulking you will have to lift heavy and need some more cabs to keep your energy level up.
Good luck

I personally do better with 45/45/10. People often forget that in oreder to build muscle, you have to have protein. If muscle is truly what you are trying to build. If you are trying to gain weight in general, just eat whatever the hell you want.

Every person is different and depending upon their age, body composition etc, bodies respond differently to different diets.

When bulking I do much better w/ carbs being about 60%, there's no way i could have more protein than carbs when bulking, and even if one could most of the protein would be converted into carbs and used for energy anyway. So might as well keep carbs high so each could fulfill its purpose.

More carbs!! Atleast 60% of carbs! carbs spare protein, so more carbs you eat, more protein is getting into muscles.

BUT! Some people respond poorly to carbs (fatness), so only THEN you should eat more protein than carbs!

You dont need lots of protein unless you eat lots of carbs!

Nasser El Sonbaty GROW by eating only 150 grams of protein! At ripped 280 pounds!
