Montreal

well when I went to play in the NCAA, the Visa was requested by the University itself.

so you apply to Con, they accepts you, they will give the ok for the visa to the Quebec Gov then to the federal gov.

If you want to work, well on a student visa I think you can only work on campus :(
not much job there. But Im not really knowledgeable on that

lol i live in Lachine! Near the canal? Lower lachine right?

Only 5 actual ghettos exist in Quebec...one of them is in Lachine.

Yeah, it's old person town, that's for sure. But hey I am a full time student, so it builds character or something. I would love to live in the old port.

I live near the highschool

Since you are an american, it's hard to get a visa that isn't a work or student visa. Canada will readily accept refugees......hence all the terrorist activity ;)

You can marry a canadian to get landed immigrant status, which I will probally do in not too long.

Or I think they have a lottery to win status, which is very hard to get. (not sure on this one)

otherwise you need a work visa, which you get if you ALREADY have a job waiting for you.

Or you get a student visa, which you ALREADY need to be accepted to a university for. Quebec likes to make things just 1 step harder than the other provences, and makes you get a quebec visa as well.

the quebec immigration was dued to many factors we were tired of getting CRAP

LOL

sorry, true and simple.

I remember I had to do a job in the parliement, and I heard one of the Quebec MP says we select our economical immigrants WHAT a joke!!!!!

I love my government! :bawling:

frustration is setting in

dont worry there are so many jobs you can do without an authorization: barmaid, stripper, waitress just to name some of them. And ! I think you can work some hours a week even with a student Visa.

Sorry, you cannot work any hours a week at all under a student visa, unless it's on campus.

You can of course like mentioned get paid under the table, as many seem to be here ;)

But as far as working legally? It was made very clear to me by the immigration agent at the point of entry.

Lachine is a hot place to be in the summer. Along that lakeshore attracts many beautiful ladies...grrr...

I would not want to be anywhere near Verdun, Little Burgandy, and Pointe St.Charles.

You may be able to go to school if you come on a work visa. I am not sure. If you are married and your husband, or yourself gets a job, both of you can usually come.

But, the company you are going to work for, has to sponsor your visa.
