Moderate drinking is healthy

am gonna lose my status as a tea-totaler and move towards a social-moderate drinker...

there is an articol and some thoughts about moderate drinkers:

Not only may moderate drinking promote heart health, new study findings from Finland have found that people who consume alcohol a few times each week may actually miss less work.

Modest drinking of any type of alcohol has been linked to better health, particularly cardiovascular health, and wine has stood out as especially beneficial. Some researchers speculate that certain properties of wine, such as its antioxidant content, may give the beverage an added benefit above and beyond its alcohol content. However, studies have also suggested that wine drinkers may just have healthier lifestyles overall.

The new findings suggest that moderate alcohol consumption may reduce health problems other than those associated with cardiovascular illness, the researchers report.

"We found that lifelong abstainers, former drinkers and heavy drinkers had higher rates of sick leaves than moderate drinkers," the study's lead author, Dr. Jussi Vahtera of the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, told Reuters Health.

"The elevated risk in non-drinkers was not due to differences in lifestyle or psychological or social factors," the researcher added.

In the study, absence from work due to sickness was based on a physician's examination, explained Vahtera.

"Typically, abstainers have slightly higher mortality than moderate drinkers while heavy drinkers have a much higher rate than the former two groups," said Vahtera. "But no clear pattern was discovered in earlier studies on the relationship between alcohol intake and other health outcomes, such as sickness absence."

Our findings suggest that light alcohol intake may reduce not only cardiovascular disease but also other health problems," Vahtera concluded

Oh great, I love that article....I read it before it was posted here, the interesting thing is that NO SOURCES ARE GIVEN BY THE AUTHOR = NOT VALID. I love when people say "studies have shown" but DO NOT provide the studies.

but what does "moderate alcohol consumptio" mean ?
1 glasss of wine per day ?
per week ?
per year ? (I hope not :D )

BTW beer is different from wine or vodka

1-2 glasses of wine/3-4 times a week
or

one beer

or

100 ml vodka

IMHO, wine will be the best option...

Nobody recommended anything;please do not take everything that is posted personally .

The study was not directed to BB in any way, shape or form, but from a healthy POV..

Just a reading material!

it's all good.......

since this is the diet board, I was relating it to diet and fitness.
I never said I took it personally, nor did I say anyone recommended it. I say it's not recommended..........

That's about all.........

Nobody is saying this is "personal" but the study is ludicrous, or in other terms BULLSHIT. Think twice next time you drink about the fact that drinking increases ESTROGEN/OESTRADIOL levels 10fold or more. That is the real reason it's recommended, the estrogen increase to combat sertain things like liver enzyme profiles. HDL/LDL, all this can be done w/ a simple pill of clomid w/o hurting your body and kiling braincells.

So, please, next time you come to a HEALTH fitness board, do not try to tell us that this is NOT directed at BodyBuilding because healthy POV can suffer too.

I dont see all this fuss made over a benign material that was only intended as another POV.
