Its in the "new drugs" appendix in my book. so it was too new to get a profile in there. it is listed as:
a treatment to improve wakefulness in patients with narcolepsy.

The purpose of modafinil is not to replace sleep, but to make a sleep deficit EASIER on your body for those days when you have to stay up because face it, for most of us school or work is more important that our pecs and sometimes there's no way of getting around allnighters.
I used 200mg of Provigil (modafinil) yesterday actually not to avoid going to bed, but to help me stay awake during the day after a bad nights sleep (fucking construction outside my building) so that I - you guessed it - could have a better workout. It all depends on how you put the stuff to use.
And y'know what, that drug is a fucking miracle. I was a walking zombie yesterday at 7am (had to teach a cardiokickboxing class), popped one at 9am, and by 1030am couldn't even remember that I was tired. AND I still got a good night's sleep yesterday to recover from some sweet lifting that afternoon - lifting that would have not been half as good if I'd been tired.
I have a few questions about Modafinil then..
1. Are there any severe side effects to using it?
2. Is it addictive?
3. How long of a sleep deficit can you use it to ease? I mean like one day is great but can you extend it past that? I want to know this because I take occasional 2.5 day trips to a city where I have minimal time to sleep and something like this would be of great benefit to me.
4. Is it safe to consume alcohol while on modafinil (very moderate amounts of alcohol), I ask this because if I am using modafinil to keep me awake on one of my trips and then I have a beer or two, is there any side effects or risks associated with this?

Meth is an amphetamine and has about a million unpleasant sides, not to mention the fact it makes you abysmally jittery. Besides that it's illegal.
Modafinil is an alpha-1 agonist / dopamine reuptake inhibitor and ONLY eliminates your desire to sleep. Nothing else. It is not a stimulant, there are no withdrawal symptoms and imho is more benign than caffeine and nobody tests for the drug.

so is modafinil as good or does it just not last as long? have to take more??
I understand that they are very close but wasn't sure of the difference other then being liver toxic. I assume that modafinil is more potent.
