Mobile AMD Sempron or Celeron M?

velvett

Elite Mentor
Platinum
I need to buy an inexpensive computer and they are the same price - which is the better choice?

Usage is mostly internet, word processing

my guess is that either choice should be fine. but you probably wont get good battery life with either, lol.

my vote: get the intel core solo laptop on sale at best buy this friday for $380 (no rebates). granted you'll probably have to be in line by midnight to be able to get one at 5am when doors open, but it'd be worth it.

It's just for travel to clients to show them photos, drawings, product pics on the web, site work, etc. I don't need a work horse or bells and whoopie - yano. I have two other computers to do my work on - this is just for my convenience.

380 - that's really good - best buy is an hour away
every time they have a sale - i miss it :worried:
something to think about though

this one is 449 with rebates

I like my semp but as a note they should not be the same price intel normally are more expensive. Now a sweat machine are the amd athelon turions :p

the celeron and sempron sound like theyd fit your needs fine. the intel core solo laptops are just nice because of the extra battery life you can get from them.

the laptop for $380 also has a dvd burner, built in wireless, 512 ram, 80 gb, and 15.4" widescreen. its a steal if you ask me.

but again you'll have to be in line hours early. doors open at 5am at most stores, but theres a HUGE line every year for this event on the day after thanksgiving. Too many good deals on lcd tvs and stuff like that.

im not sure how battery life on the turions compare to intel core battery life. does anyone know this? do they even make dual core turion laptops? if not then intel probably at least has the edge speed wise.

Have to check I was looking at turions before dual core came out and they smoke showed anything intel had at the time.

AMD's processing takes up less power Intel are hogs generally but they are getting better. :nerd:
