beautiful tele and rickenbacker, what are the specs? are you currently playing or collecting?

Here is my recent collection (added a 60s Custom Player Strat last week).

Nice.

The Telecaster was made in February 1966, I've had it since 1979. The Ric 610-12 is from the early 1990s, I remember sending a cashier's check to the guy in NJ for it, I dropped the letter at the post office when I was walking to the polling place to vote for Clinton's re-election in 1996.

The Gretsch is new, I got it in November when Musician's Friend was having a blow-out sale on that model 'cause they were due to be changed for 2007. The new ones have Chet Atkins' name printed on the pickguard now.

The Fender Deluxe-Amp is from September 1963. The 18-watt "Marshall" is one I built from a kit, and the tan Vox AC15 is still under construction.

I saw Brian Setzer wail on one of those Gretsch's, nice guitar, however I played one once in a studio and almost got thrown out due to the hum...I love them, but its hard to gig with them unless you control the room.

I love the Tele, you realize you need to add a third (middle) pickup right?

I assme you like the output of the Rickenbacker...

Mine doesn't seem to be particularly hummy, despite its single-coil HiLoTron pickups. Setzer has his own signature model from them, it's somewhat different from mine. First of all, it has real f-holes instead of the fake painted ones on mine; secondly it has Filtertron pickups, which are humbucking, instead of single-coils. Also the body is deeper. The Setzer model is sort of a modified 6120. My Tennessee Rose is model #6119-1962HT.

No. I don't. In fact the best Telecasters are Esquires, which only have one pickup. The Esquire is a real man's guitar, it'll put hair on your chest, there's nowhere to hide with one of those. You have to find all your tonal variations with your right hand attack, instead of looking for it from a switch or a knob. I'll add a third pickup to my Telecaster when you vote for Hillary Clinton.

I'm not fond of the Rickenbacker Hi-Gain pickups. At some point in time I plan to have this guitar serviced and modified by "Dr. Quist", a luthier in California who specializes in making Rics more playable. One of his mods is to change the spacing on the nut and bridge saddle slots, to give you more room for your fingers between that wall of strings. He can also unwind the Hi-Gain pickups to more closely equal the performance of the vintage Ric pickups. As it sits, the Hi-Gains have a decent tone, but they hit the input of the amplifier so hard that there are no clean tones unless you dial back the volume knob on the guitar a bit.
