Do you have a lot of photos and editing stuff on there or still the iMac?

I like the 13" size but I like the processors in the 15". I don't care about the video card.

I don't have a ton of photos, but I have all my editing software like Photoshop CC etc on here.

I wanted a retina display for my photography. I like that i can take it w/me on location and tether it to my canon to display the pics on a bigger monitor than my camera's lcd screen to check for different things.

I didn't care about the HD size cuz my iMac has a 1TB so i use it for storage.

I think this has the 2.5 or 2.7ghz and it's plenty fucking fast.
 
if you want to take it anywhere the 15 will feel too big I think

if portability is important to you I'd do 13.

Apple enjoyers are the biggest fanboys ever, I've learned to stop trying to convince y'all not to buy inferior products at superior prices.

After hearing a rich bimbo say she buys every apple device that comes out because "they're just so cool and fashion" I lost my marbles...
 
just say you can't afford it nan. Much more respectable than saying a superior product is inferior.

Apple stuff is pricey, but it's also very nice.

I recently took an 11" macbook air and put windows 7 on it. It's tough, fast and slips inside the pocket of my portfolio.

At one point I had three, an area 51-desktop, m15x and an old m7700, I sold the m15x and desktop when I moved, I refused to let go of my m7700.

In all fairness it was easier and cheaper for me to have Alienware seeing how I supported them, built them and got access to the employee sales. :)

That's the biggest problem with my current laptop. I still have the old Dell Vostro they gave me as an intern in residency. It's still quite good, has a i7 processor and 4 gigs of ram and is still fairly speedy for nearly 4 yrs old but for whatever reason the IT guy thought we'd like 17" screens.... That had to be the dumbest decision ever given that we took these things to and from work every day. Prior to that I had a Dell XPS m1330 which I loved aside from the fact that it toasted motherboard after motherboard.

I have money that I've been saving since May that I got for reimbursement for my board exams that I am going to use.

You're absolutely right, what the fuck do I know, it's not like I ever lived, breathed and bleeded at the cutting edge of technology for years on high end computers that are more than $5k, systems that are so awesome and advanced that they are used by design teams such as Lucas Arts, fuck for years they've even had technology built in that's not even commonly available right now,(i.e. dormant USB 3.0) not to mentioned they've been using things like digital and facial recognition for more than 5 years now.

Apple started USB 3.0 last year and facial recognition this year, nice falling behind life, not to mention that they throw like one or two damn features and release the whole same damn product all over again, not to mention they release it with features that have been available for years on other systems. Hell last year iPhones finally got technology I had in my HTC 9525 in 2005!

But you go ahead and spend a couple of grand on their stuff because it's "cool" and doesn't get virus (despite being hackable in less than a minute). ;)

The MBP retina is pretty lightweight and very portable either way but I'd definitely go with the 13. I really think that you might have some regrets if you go with the 15 if portability is a priority. Is there a reason why you aren't considering an Air?

That was for nan...... Ololol, no really, the biggest processor tops out at 1.7ghz and I plan on using more juice than that. Otherwise I would definitely be considering a MBA.

hey DT if i was gonna build a new box strictly for linux right now, what's the best bang for buck processor, vid card, memory you would recommend? I want to setup quad monitors is really the only special need i have. Really just running my trading platform for the most part but would like it powerful enough for graphic design i guess is the only thing else i might use
 
Your resources got pegged the last 15 seconds and then some or is that graph backwards? You weren't doing much intensive work except the last 15 seconds or more when all your cores looked to be at 100%

You have some special trading app that requires Linux? I work for a financial firm and everything from Bloomberg to Reuters to Portware and Merrin and Charles River are built to run on a Windows/Citrix environment. If your asking a question about basic hardware requirements then you don't want to be running Linux on your own personally built box for trading apps.

I'm a Systems Admin for a web hosting company. You ever play Call of Duty? It's hosted by us....all 3,000 servers it was load balanced across...now go sit down.

That wasn't directed at you dude it was at pokey and being a systems admin for a web hosting company wouldn't make you an expert in trading apps to run in a Linux environment if you're going to mention 3000 load balanced servers for Call of Duty.

I've always liked you bro so I don't want to get in a web forum dick slapping contest with you when we're have two different areas of expertise, but I don't need to be told to sit down (which I'm sure wasn't completely serious since you don't know my background) when I setup systems for portfolio managers and various international heads of trading for a financial institution and this is my SME area.

Not a call out or fly to fight, just real talk for half a second.

Lol no and I'm sure he didn't mean it seriously but it was the sit down comment. We all bust balls here and I'm sure that's all it was but trading apps are my SME in a corporate environment. I still love DT, we have a thing for big booties so I like anyone who appreciates a nice onion as much as I do.
 
I worked for Smith Barney and later Charles Schwab around '92. Schwab came out with some desktop trading software and I thought "who the hell would have a computer in their house?" We've come a long way since those days obviously.

Yeah no kidding. We have some in-house apps that do some crazy shit. They don't tell you this stuff in college like "you like computers and want to make some serious money? Develop an application that allows portfolio managers to better predict their fund returns".

There really is no reason to go with the Air unless you get the bottom model. Once you add more ram and increase the disk you're in Pro territory without Retina. I'm amazed how little battery the pro uses. I can leave the plug at home....unless I'm going to Nans. She loves the Apple butt plug.

The air smokes the MBP in battery life. I upgraded the Air I bought Cindy as much as possible and yeah it's fast and in the pro territory, but it's still thinner/lighter (what she wanted) and the battery outlasts my MBP by a long shot.

I've owned both. Yeah, upgrading and increasing the disk put it at Pro territory w/o Retina but I look at the Retina like I don't have the thinnest and lightest MacBook available. I travel a lot. I hate tablets. There must be others out there like me.
