Milk

Ok so i must have read hundreds of diets by now, and very few of them incorporate milk into them...So thus my question, why does nobody use skim milk as a source of protein? Close to no fat, few carbs (assuming your not on a carb free diet), so whats the problem? I just ask because ive grown up drinking milk, and im absolutely addicted x-)...id appreciate it if anybody could tell me why skim milk is or isnt a good idea in a diet.

I use skim milk here and there. If I might miss a meal I grab a small bottle and guzzle. Some people gain unwanted wt from milk. I like milk. Milk does the body good.

Nothing is wrong with milk. But a lot of people are on low-carb diets now and ~12g of carbs per 8oz may hinder their diets. Also, some people complain of bloat, but I've never experienced any. I usually drink 3/4 a gallon of milk per day.

I drink skim milk & make SF pudding out of it, use it in oatmeal & protein shakes, etc.....I don't see a problem with it but others on here are on very low carb diets so I guess they don't want to waste their minimal carbs on milk.....I'm on moderate carbs so I don't have a problem....

It's my understanding that the Carbs in milk are sugar...lactose. Also, dairy can bloat some people, so they avoid it. Plus, it DOES have calories, most people would rather EAT their calories when cutting. I know I would.

it's actually a sugar that has a minimal effect on insulin production... so it's cool...plus, that new low carb milk has like 3g. of sugar, 3g. of CHO and double the protein.

good responses x-) didnt know about the sugar stuff...im tryin to do moderate carbs so i take in a lotta milk...it just tastes so good with so many different foods heh cant resist...

What happened to those old milk commercials where the kid is like 8 and he's in front of a mirror, he drinks some milk and transforms into this 21 year old with a hot chick, hahaha

1] Milk is rich in lactose (=carb)

2] Skim milk is tasteless

3] Non skim milk is rich in fat (and not the good ones)

4] Milk is said to cause bloating (even for non lactose intolerant people)

hey, then dont drink it.........geezus.....

who said I did ? :D

Actually I love yogurt and cottage cheese
All the benefits of milk with less lactose :p

When I switched to Soya milk, my bodyfat dropped within weeks.
Unless you're drinking Organic milk, I wouldn't recommend it. Its full of nasty sh*t.

I used to use skim milk in my shakes but switched to using water about a year and a half ago after hearing a lot of recommendations on this board. I've had an easier time keeping bodyfat in check since then - though I can't be sure it was the primary factor. I still drink about half a liter a day of skim with my morning mĂĽsli, love it.

Post workout you want the protein to be easily absorbed and utilised by the muscles.
Milk slows down this absoprtion rate. This is why we take the shake with water.
At all other times you can take it with milk as we want a slower digestion rate at the gut. Casein/Whey is better suited to this.

You can't beat casein just before bed

There are several reasons why dairy products - milk in particular - are very unhealthy and unsanitary us. It's unsanitary because the production process is a very dirty procedure and it's unhealthy because of the way the cows are raised and cared for.
Remember everything the cow ingests ends up in the milk.
Puss and mucous is white or light in color and therefore hidden by the intoxicating, camouflaged white color of milk. Farmers pump the cows up with antibiotics and as a result, the drugs are in the milk we buy; yet another chemical added to the already disgusting recipe.
Are you sure you all want to make it staple?

give it up bro.....if that was the case...you wouldnt eat any meats, dairy, fish, etc........do whatever you want to do....dont post shit about milk and mucous when you are really have no idea......organic?

Jesus jkurz1 bro! Sorry to have upset you man. You a dairy farmer or something?
Just stating a few facts thats all.......sorry if I sounded like I was preaching.
Organic produce constitutes the majority of my diet. Why? Because I care about what I put in to my body. That goes for my meat, fish and vegetables.
Each to their own.

exactly...but just dont bash products that some people swear by (I'm not one of them, but many newbies do and its EXCELLENT for packing on mass)......if youve ever been to a chicken coup or slaughter house, I swear to you bro, you'd never touch meat again....tis why I stay away.........milk is a great source of protein, but has potentially different effects..............to each his own.
