her nomination.

Funny in that I never hoguth she was Bush's first choice...I think she was an offering.......now he will place someone in the "swing vote" in R V.Wade - someone whom he "wants"

It also saves Bush from turning over certain documents

ehh...I was looking forward to the hearings and the testimonies from witnesses about how the Texas gaming comm. contracts. That'd be a news day.

That would require some concept of strategy. I don't think Bush has the intellect to think strategically.

The guy pulling his strings, Karl Rove, sure does.

His peeps do. Roberts was a brilliant choice - he got a white conservative male judge into the top spot. Roberts had an unassailable record of being a top performer his whole career.

Miers did not have that. She's at best above average, and they do call it the SUPREME court.

Biush needs to find another all star. That shit about black, Hispanic, etc is 100% garbage - and I actually respect W more for not caving to political pressures.

I suspect he willl now, though.

He wasn't about to put a personal friend through the humiliation that she's had to endure.

maybe....but then again, she has come out of this Hillary-fied.....ie - smelling like a rose

I want a Hispanic female judge with 25+ years on the bench, who has authored significant case law.

Give me competence within logical and effective balance ... not a loyal fan.

So.. basically you want a socialist, activist judge whos primary motivation is the reditribution of wealth.. ? What a great idea. LOL

How about a white, capitialist male, who respects the constitution and its strict limitation on government power?

I know.. its just crazy talk.

Mark my words:

Bush will be forced to nominate:

Female

Minority

....or one who is both

he got Roberts through - sailed through.

Agreed - and my comment is meant to be taken without any insinuation that his next pick will/wont be confirmed.

He nominated a woman, his spin doctors layed that fact to the hilt.....so now - if his next pick ISNT a woman, it will have a bit of a smack to it, I think.

Roberts sailed through when he was moved from replacing O'Connor to replace Reinquist. He would have had a bumpy ride if he was going to replace O'Connor.

I think that all this speculation that the Miers nomination and subsequent withdrawal is part of some grand strategy is just wishful thinking that GWB didn't actually fuck up.

Im telling you...he might be stupid...but his inner circle is far from it

Strongly agreed.

His next pick, won't be Latino. He covered that with his pick for the Dept. of Justice.

There is a judge in Alabama he tried to get through on the Fed. Circuit level. I believe she has conservative views. The Democrats put a stop to that. Black & female . . . that would be interesting.

Honestly.....the idea of picking someone based on what they look like as opposed to their competency for the position turns my stomach in general....in any area.

I agree. But, unfortunately, this is politics.

It definitely should not apply to the Supreme Court.

True....interesting that the liberal side blocked the judge in Alabama....

Example of someone who WAS qualified, but "looks" got in the way

If he wants a smooth confirmation hearing, he has to nominate someone that had similar views as O'Connor. Personally, I think he should nominate someone that will uphold the Consitutition. The nominees views are irrelevant. Roberts handled his confirmation hearing the right way. That's where judges & attorneys who want to move up the judicial ranks mess up. Keep your mouth shut w/ regard to your "opinions" and just compare the laws on the books & cases with the words of the Constitution.
