Midnight STARVING!

I finish working out about 430pm. I usually lay down about 9ish as I have to be up at 5am for work. Problem: I have ZERO appetite postworkout. I usually have a shake, and force down a salad about an hour later. Then I'm stufed for the night. However, midnight, 2am, 4am rolls around and I am STARVING...it actually wakes me up. Last night for example, I had a casein shake with almonds at 9pm, slep, woke starving, had a muscle milk with some veggies.......slept....woke at 2am, same deal....another shake with some pb.....does this mean I'm not eating enough during the day(Im stuffing myself with 3500 cals).......or what? Does anyone else have this problem? Is this a recipe for fat gain? If I continue to drink shakes, eat bars, veggies, etc when I wake?

if you are going to wake up a couple of times during the night adn eat, then keep it to proteins and little to no carbs, I would maybe try to eat a solid meal before bed and see if that helps, just some suggestions, I'm no guru when it comes to diet,(or anything else for that matter)

if you are bulking id say the only drawback to eating the extra foods would be the fact that your sleep is interrupted.

typically I eat fats/casein in the evening and never have issues with hunger

This is the way to go.

Rice cakes or oatmeal has been my midnight choice of champs....plus I got theses cases upon cases of carb sense myoplex bars....soooo good with hot cocoa or a thick muscle milk shake....mmmmmmm

IT sounds liek you aren't eating enough throughout the day. When I wake up I usually just down 5 tbsps of ANPB. There's a quick and easy 500kcal with a reasonable macronutrient ratio. Throw in a glass of skim milk and you are good to go. Or have a shake ready to go that has some ground up rolled oats in it or something to keep you feeling satiated.

ditch the bars and switch to some food..try peanut butter with something casein and your hunger will probably fade..even in the morning after.

Eating whole food before bed may help this.
I opt for cottage cheese, lean ground beef, scrambled eggs, or turkey breast before bed.

a salad an hour after your workout? why not a meal? u aint eating nearly enough it doesnt seem. u should have a post workout shake, an hour later a full meal and an hour and a half to 2 hours after that another meal. then something before bed.

Im eating a whole meal prebed, but still waking up and eating 2-3 times a night....usually a hommade protein bar or some veggies, or whatever.......it's all clean so there wouldnt be a problem, right??? Hell, bruce eats pizza at 2am.....lol

I think the best way to get you back to sleep quickly is to get your during sleep meals

next to your bed. so that you dont have to get out of your bed alot.

for example prepare yourself 2 meals (2tbsp of anpb & fat free CC) if thats not enough

add 200g broccolli since its not calorie dense & will keep you full longer.

break down your daily caloric intake. be honest with yourself so we can help.

it sounds like you are not getting enough meat in your diet. try a big ass steak before bedtime with some veggie medley.

just roll with it...if you wake up and are hungry just eat a nice well rounded bb snack...it just means your metab is moving.....if you feel your staying to lean and want to grow than up the cals throughotu the day.

How much do you weigh? You have 3-4 hours between meals. ad a protien shake in thier or two or even three

yea sounds like you might want to up that calorie intake during the day to avoid waking up during the night, i HATE waking up during the night, ruins everything including your workout the next day

Maybe I'm missing something because everyone seems to be giving the same advice on eating more throughout the day, but why would eating more throughout the day at all help his sleeping problems? Shouldn't waking up out of hunger really only depend on his last meal (or at most, his last two meals) of the day?

A casein shake, cottage cheese, or a handful of nuts, these are usually enough to keep me going throughout the night (on avg. 6hrs of sleep). In fact, before I started eating healty, I used to eat nothing before bed time and just wake up hungry...when it was time to wake up.

Now maybe I'm just a heavy sleeper, but I have to ask, do you have any sleeping problems? Because taking in 3 seperate meals during bedtime (and muscle milk really isnt the best option) to me does seem excessive (and I def. wouldn't wake up out of hunger).

Also noticed you said you wake up at 5 am for work, but don't get your first meal in till 745am, wondering what the reason for that is?
