microwaves and estrogen

KillJoy

New member
I was watching a tape by Dr. Andrew Weil (sp?) on general health, but one thing he said was that microwaving plastic puts a lot of synthetic estrogen into our food. And even if what you have is a "microwave safe"plate for example, that means that the plate will not melt but does not mean that it will not put estrogen in your food. So Don't put plastic in the microwave!!!!!!!!!

thanks

Actually, he is right. There are many synthetic estrogens or estrogen mimicking substances out there. Many plastics have been known to have the same effect as estrogen. So basically, your the idiot for being ignorant.

I've also heard about this from a lot of sources. Not a good thing, and pretty hard to avoid if you think about it.

Wow, your a fucking idiot. All KJ did was come on here and post some info that he heard about. DOnt agree? Big fuckin deal, just say, "I don't agree." No need to be a fucking asshole about it.

Go find some other fucking board to post on jackass. Looks like a lot of other good bros out there have heard the same thing. So keep your damn pie hole shut unless you have somehtng intelligent to say.

Here's some read:

The alkyl phenols are known to emulate estrogen. Sources of these chemical mimicking estrogens are found in the varnish that lines food cans, detergent breakdown products, and bisphenol-A, a common antioxidant in plastics. These plastics that contain an alky phenols are quite common. The plastics that have been shown to have these estrogen mimics are drinking water bottles, plastic test tubes, and plastic food wrap. Unfortunately, only a handful of chemicals have been tested for hormone disrupting effects. The EPA has listed about 50. The estrogen stimulating effects can be shown to occur in the test tube at parts per billion. In other words, the amount of estrogen that leaches into the water from a plastic test tube is sufficient 5-10 times over to stimulate estrogen sensitive breast cancer cells in the test tube to proliferate. These chemicals that mimic estrogens may contaminate our air, food and water and end up in our body in parts per billion. However, our human bodies run on hormone levels of parts per trillion.

It's also, keep in mind, important to view such considerations with in a context (so something that mimics Estrogen does not necessarily equate to manifest effect).

I'm going to have to agree with the mainstream here, your a fuckin douche and if I could remember every single time I've read about this I could write a novel.

Very interesting post......

Its amazing how many toxins we put our poor bodies through and dont' even know it. Yet the human body still prevails. The human body is amazing if you think about it.

I've always been impressed by the human body. Its ability to adapt to different stimuli, protect itself from a myriad of threats, and its ability to overcome some serious shit.

It seems like every day I hear a new "health danger"; milk is bad, red meat is bad, tap water is bad, lifting heavy weights is bad, it never fucking ends. Come on, don't you guys get sick of this shit?!? Like you guys are saying, our bodies are really good at adapting, so who cares?

You think i give a shit what people say is bad for me? I drive fast and take chances. I wanna die happy, therefore i will do what makes me happy. But its still interesting on how many things around us are potentially dangerous. My point is..... even though they may be a danger, the fact that the human body can overcome it and filter it is still amazing to me. The human body is the greatest machine ever invented. Nothing compares.......

The fact of the matter is that microwaves and estrogen is a true statement. IF you don't like the info......be my guest and nuke everthing in sight....please, but RdStrcklnd goes and compares
this to milk and meat. Thats comparing apples to oranges.
milk and red meat, good or bad is food, but plastic is not.
and a other thing......when has anyone ever enjoyed microwaved plastic? Is it that hard to use glass insted? but most important....pick your poisons. Thats all I'm saying, so calm down.

So if we hear someone saying that smoking is bad, we should call them a jackass and keep on smoking??! No -- don't make a judgment until you're informed about the effects. Our society is full of chemicals and environmental hazards that did not exist even 100 years ago. So take a chill pill and learn to research.

Chill pill...speaking of pills...I have not heard any counter remarks that the estrogen in hormone replacement therapy and birth control drugs does not survive or is somehow filtered out in water treatment facilities. Whether or not there is sufficient urinary estrogen created from these two therapeutic classes of drugs is up for dispute and I don't readily know the numbers. So I'm just playing devil's advocate bringing this up.

I would say that it doesn't matter as I don't drink tap water, but I bathe in it, cook my food in it and drink it just like everyone else when I eat out. Oh well I guess the situation could be worse...such as soy products...
:D
