metformin instead of ala ok?

hi,

i`m curious to know if you can take metformin instead of ala on a ckd and have the same results as with ala (i dont care about ala`s antioxidant functions, just the better carb-load and quicker being back in ketosis)?

i ask because i can get metformin dirt cheap and ala is about 1 $ in germany for 600mg.
