Metallica and 7 string guitar

I haven’t played in about 14 years so I have been out of it for a while. They have a 7-string guitar on the Metallica DVD that came with the CD. I am not going to even comment on the CD since it’s been said 100X here. What’s the deal with the 7th? Is that just for the low Metallica thump rhythm?

I remembered when I used to tune down my 6 to get that low low rhythm. Back in the Master of Puppet days!

I played for years but locally early Metallica and other speed metal was not popular in my liittle preppy part of long island.

Got fed up playing alone in my bedroom because everyone else wanted to play Rat and other gay bands!

I didn't notice a 7 stringer...I know the black one with green flames is a baritone guitar (hetfields) it has a longer scale which allows for loooow tunings..like B or A. Do you remember what it looked like and who was playing it Het or Hammett?

I was checking out all the new axes they were playing and the only new ones I noticed were mostly Hetfields: ESP with the cross thing on it gold colored, ESP Grynch (baritone) and a new Gibson Explorer w/ silver pickguard....if I remember Hammett was playig all his normal ESPs and then he broke out a Gibson Les Paul Sunburst color, different from his standard black one....anyway i could be wrong as shit, I only watched it one time, i will try to check it out again tonight if I get time...

right you are man, I forgot about that Ax...it is a cheap LTD, a sister company of ESP, which makes a majority of there sigature guitars....hmmmm..i never would have thought he would touch a 7 string, he can get heavy as all fuck with 6, so I can imagine why he would want to play a 7???????

A freind of mine who played guitar for Mortal Reign (they have a site on the net-the band has since disolved) plays the 7 strings. He is awesome. He wants me to be his guitar tech, but I just got to much other shit going on.
