these last months ive hade big problems sleeping.

lots of things have happen in my life, and these things keeps me up at night wondering. have thought about get strong sleeping pills like xanax or something but would like to try this stuff first, and maybe....keep me from maybe getting addicted.

so i would like to try melatonin....does the stuff work?

A cheap alternative that works well for me, not everyone, is Kava Kava tea. It has a sort of unique earthy taste but will knock you out. You can buy it at most grocery/health food stores.

When your body is ready to sleep, it will. Don't worry about it. Chill out.

I'm totally serious - Try it.

If that doesn't work... then you go thru the gauntlet of sleep aids.
Some work, some don't. Let nature take it's course.

I use it , works great. Start out with 3mg a night for about 4 days, then go up to 6mg. Anymore than that makes me have crazy dreams. Not addictive to me, like the prescribed meds are.

It does relax you but I like it because you I dont wake up in the morning feeling droggy like a ambien does.

I heard about this stuff a while ago. I was at the mall a few weeks ago with my wife and I was bored out of my mind. I strolled into Vitamin World and purchased a bottle os 200 caps for $5. I probably over paid for them, but I wanted to give them a try.

I love taking them. I fall asleep quicker, and usually don't wake up during the night at all. In the morning, I feel well rested and not groggy (Tylenol PM leaves me groggy).

It's so inexpensive, you should try it. If it doesn't work, you're only out $5 bucks.

it'll work if you are jsut having mild issues, but honestly anyone who melatonin works for doesn't "need" anything and could benefit from some sleep hygiene.

dude look up sleep hygiene, best shit out there.

Melatonin is cool but doesn't always work for me. I take 6mgs a night and it's hit and miss. I am slowly learning to slow down my brain as I transition into sleep which is important and I also have to set the stage for sleep. Things have to be just right though or else nothing, and I do mean NOTHING will work. Not even drugs or mulitple sleepless nights will knock me out. I've also tried L-Tryptophaine (spl?) and that seems to work fairly well. You should also take a calcium supplement before bedtime. Calcium has a calming effect on the central nervous system. I guess that's why people say to drink a warm glass of milk before bedtime if you are having trouble sleeping.
Someone mentioned dreams and yeah, they are quite vivid on Melatonin. Sometimes they can reach epic proportions but that means that your getting into that important REM sleep so let the dreams be I say.
