2 things:

going to do a bone marrow/stem cell transpalnt for a family member, presently on HRT .6mg or 1.8 units daily 5on2off and 200mg test every 7 days. does anyone know if this would adversely affect the cancer patient or could it be a good thing to help them fight the cancer, or should i stop the HRT for 2wks to a months prior transplant surgery? they take bone marrow out of my pelvis...

and, i going under a general anesthesia. would being on these medication affect the anesthesia process, the procedure takes apr 60-90 mins.

anyone with surgery while, have any experience with this...

thanks for all the help,

oooooh shit this thread is a bomb

look. there are 2 main issues really; infection from you, becasue peopel who use roids tend to have a few more microbes in their bodies, and roids if the cancer is roid dependent

even if the cancer in the family member was roid dependent, theyre taking a very small amount of tissue out of you and so any transferred roid would be quite small.

as for the infection risk, the recipient is going to be on some serious antibiotics, and even if you did have some strange bugs in your blood that youre shooting in there (or have shit technique) it should be under control

there is still SOME risk (even hypothetical) involved.

either way, this is the sort of thing you have a chat to a doctor about. Im a pharmacist, im quite comfy weighing in with some serious people, and am 99.9% confident of the things i say, but overall, when dealing with ultra sick people, you chat to a surgeon about it.

actually, thinking about it, a stealth way to find out everything you need to know is to anonymously call an organ donor centre, except for the cancer androgen dependency

cheerios

Nothing you are taking is contraindicated with any human anesthetic and as far as your family member, there should not be any problems. Your bone marrow is producing a greater number of cells while on HRT, but should not cause any problems.

Best of luck to the both of you!!!

thanks guys,

should i stop for a couple weeks, just to lower the levels...

and yes, going to speak to the oncologist about it, just would like hear more from the forums...

Call an Organ Donor place. My fiancee's father had Liver Cancer and my finacee donated her liver. It is the only organ that grows back. She gave him 60% and hers grew back to 100% and so did his. We are very lucky and blessed. It is no joke. She was out of work for 4 months. Don't mess with someone elses life. or your own. You have good intentions but make sure all is ok before you do anything. I am sure the docs will run many tests before hand, be honest with them about everything. God bless and good luck!
