I don't know whether that routine is truely his, but its not impossible for someone to maintain a serious physique on something like that. One key component is intensity. Also, alot of guys build a great deal of their mass over the early portion of their career with brutal routines, but maintain and refine it with less mindblowing workouts. Not all, but some guys do it this way like the guys who have the giant wheels, but say they don't squat. Yeah not now, but I'll give you anything if he didn't build those things with squats back in the day.

what a guy does now is not necessarily what he did to get where he is now.

That is very true! I'm sure at some point in time he followed a more typical bodybuilding style routine with more volume.

Mark has pretty much followed the high intensity method for his entire career, i got to talk to him at length at the 01'Nationals. He has amazing genetics and structure. I've said it before and will repeat it...his physique should be the ruler that the judges go by. He's not the biggest by any means, but he has very few flaws. Before anyone reads into this, i'm not saying that he is the best of all time or anything...but as far as judging guidelines go, he's pretty much the complete package. I'm sure he will do well as a pro. Reminds me of Labrada.

I got the chance to train with Mark Dugdale while in Vegas for the Olympia. He trained his back in this same style. Very strict, very intense. Lot's of stretching between sets also. Awesome physique.

I agree. Genetics are #1.

Genetics and stretching. People over look how mportant stretching is to help build muscle.

Not to flame you bro, but genetics are a thousand times more important than stretching w/in the context of muscle gain and fat loss.

Let's not forget that Dorian used much lower volume than most BB's of his day. I repsond better to higher volume, but I know that some guys get their best results with programs like Mark's.

Stretching the muscle that you are working is proven to decrease strength, because the myotatic reflex will reduce your ability to produce maximum force as a precautionary measure against injury.

What is the difference in strength when stretching/not stretching I hope it isnt anything big

It's impossible to say what it is, it would relate to the intensity and duration of the stretch. It's not cut and dry, I just know I avoid it until I'm done lifting.

oh I thought u meant if u stretch in genreal u will be weak

Stretching before weight lifting decreases performance

by Paul Cribb, B.H.Sci HMS

In every gym I visit, I still see guys and gals stretching like crazy before they attack their weights. Don’t these people know that they’re sabotaging their training?

A lot of studies have now confirmed that passive stretching before high intensity muscle contraction will reduce the ability to produce maximum force. Additionally, it’s also been confirmed that stretching before exercise is not linked to a reduced risk of muscle injury. So stretching before training won’t protect you from tearing a muscle. Stretching is an important component for building strength and improving athletic performance as it increases/maintains range of motion of the joints. However, stretching should be left until after the hard work is done.

The best warm-up for weight training exercise is to perform lighter sets of the exercise before you begin the heavy stuff. But remember, don’t perform too many reps; this will result in premature fatigue that short-circuits your capacity to lift your heaviest weights. The Max-OT program contains a science-based warm-up strategy that actually primes your muscles so that you can attack your heaviest weights possible in the gym. Sign up for the Max-OT program and use science to boost your results

No, stretching in general does not make you weak. Stretching before and during lifting does. I stretch religiously after I work out, I never skip it. I don't know if it truly facilitates recovery or not, but I do think it will help keep you from getting injured.
