Marine Got Shot Last Night

Some of you may know that I am a sentry for a Marine Corps base stationed over in Japan. Well last night a Devil Dog from 2nd platoon, I'm in first, got shot. No crazy Jap rushed the gates at shot him, no terrorist. Another dumb Marine was fucking around with his M-9 Beretta, and jokingly pointed it at him, and accidentally discharged a round into his head. As of 0200 last night he had a 30% chance of making it through the next 24 hours with surgery, and has a 10% chance of surviving at all. If by some chance he does survive he will be paralyzed on his right side, and have problems with speech, and comprehension.

Stupid fucking Marines piss me off. Sad thing is the mother fucker who shot him is infantry and is supposed to be a little more superior in weapons handling than non-infantry.

Appx 1000 Sat morning he passed away. He was on life support and the part of his brain that controls breathing and other shit our bodies do without us forcing it to do was either blown out of his head or destroyed by the round that hit him.

Now we have some asshole fuckers who will walk by us and say shit like don't shoot yourself ha ha. I swear to Christ the first son of a bitch that says it to me personally will get my boot in their face. The memorial was earlier this afternoon, and some of the assholes I mentioned had the audacity to show.

I never got a chance to know him b/c our platoons worked alternating schedules, but the few times I got to talk to him he was good to go. Always had a smile on his face. I feel so bad for his and family who were robbed of a son, brother, and uncle.

Charges are going to be filed soon. Further investigations must be done. Don't know what, but they'll do their job. We had a Lt Col come in and talk to us individually asking us about the training we received. I told him that they can give us all the info they'd like, but application is on the Marine. He agreed.

Taps is without a doubt the saddest song I have heard, and today at that thought was cemented in when it played at the end of the service.

Sorry to hear about this terrible incident. Unfortunately, I agree with with Rex's coment on the weapons handling/training comment. I was in the Marine Corps for 5 years (1 year in Okinawa, Japan). During weapons quailificatons, the infantry (aka - "grunts") score the lowest. Un"freakin" believable!

There is NOTHING worse than hearing taps the first time after fellow Marines die.

I lost 28 friends in a helicopter accident in South Korea. Stading i the rain a few mornings later listening to taps for the first time (we couldnt leave the field right away) was one of the most saddening things Ive been through. Just writing this is hard.

Stupid accidents are the worst way to go.

You would think that the Marines, being the most respected branch of military out there would take a little responsiblility and quit acting like idiots. I shouldt say all the Marines out there, cause 99% of them are a good bunch, but the other 1% just fuck things up. I leave for basic training, and at anytime when im in the marines a guy points a gun at me he is gonna go down hard.
