Man...I feel like I just need a break...or some luck....

In all aspects of my professional life....business, career, education...etc. When I say break, I am referring to a chance. I think alot comes from second guessing myself and the decisions I make. I've thought about selling my business....changing jobs....going back for my MBA.....going into real estate.....everyday is a different idea and mood. Sometimes I wish something would just fall onto my lap, where I say "YES!, that is it"...does anyone understand what I mean? Seems like most successful people I know had this instance in their life, and I've yet to see it. Don't get me wrong...I'm all for working hard....I've been doing that the last 9 years of my life.....just nothing has seemed to come easy.......Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Emperor: would you like to go out for dinner later tonight?

Matt: yes.

Matt breaks date with gym-hottie and goes out with the person who changed his life forever.

You're second guessing yourself, that is healthy, it is how you stay productive and focused on what you are doing.

If there is any advice I can give you, it would be to pursue your ideas further before ruling them out. For example, your interest in real estate -how far did you go? Did you take the classes? Did you get a license? Sell a house etc.

What other things have you had an idea about that you did not run down? Run them down before you second guess them.

I look at the VP of our company....I admire him...worked his way from a shop floor in Europe to running a division worlwide......I just wonder how he did it....want to pick his brain......the only way I see advancement in the corporate world is an MBA.....maybe it is just the company I work for that is holding me back and think that way.

As far as real estate goes.....architecture, construction and everything revolving around real estate has been my first love....unfortunately, I didn't follow that once I graduated high school. I am still planning on taking the RE classes and pursuing it....but the one thing I am not, is patient.....I need to see results quick or I get discouraged...and I am already second guessing those results as an RE agent.,.....long term, being an agent is not what I am looking for.....I want to be in the middle of the"big stuff" and see the RE agent thing as a way of getting my foot in the door.......I am also in talks with a buddy of mine and his friend to start an investment company/brokerage....that is what I ideally would like to do........

I told my wife last night that I am discouraged because I do not feel like I am excellent at one given thing....moreso above average in most of things I do in comparison to the average Joe's of this world......I need to strive to be excellent in one thing....now is the time to decide what that thing is.

So... you're a Sith Lord now?

I've felt the way you feel about those things, not so much about 2nd guessing but catching a break or feeling held back and the whole MBA thing.

I have been here over 2 years

never gotten a compliment

and then last night out of the blue my boss tells me he's happy at how hard I'm working and has been noticing changes in me. says if I keep going I will be a very successful developer and make as much money as I could ever want to make someday. that he wants me to travel more and be involved with everything not just finance.

I was just like :heks:

sometimes it just comes out of the blue.

Figure out what you want to get into or specialize in (to reach your ultimate goals) and then totally engulf yourself in it.

If you wish to make XYZ happen, but don't have the knowledge or experience to pull off XYZ -- find someone who can, and utilize their knowledge to get it done. That's what I do.

When you feel like you're in a rut -- go read. Read books of people who "did" make it. Read about how they went through and solved pretty much the same problems you're going through right now.."in their words".

Also -- WRITE things down. I always feel that whatever idea I have flaoting in my head --- writing it down forces me to really define it accurately. Makes me analyze it in a new perspective and cut out any "grey" areas. It also leads me more to brainstorm, get creative and become more organized and structured in whatever idea i was pursuing. Not to mention it's always great to have physical notes to refer to later on.

But most of all -- keep a positive mindset. A positive mindset is a fertile beautiful area of the mind where powerful and proactive ideas can nurture and can become reality.

From the sound of things, you have your hand in too many pots.

Best advice my dad gave me, if you are going to do something, be the best at it, never room for second place. I did this in Pharm sales, I broke sales records that industry will never see again. I networked my ass off, and I worked on average 70+ hours a week (as opposed to what 99% of that industry does, which is get by with as little effort as possible). I've been doing cars now for about three years, I'm nowhere near where I want to be in this industry, but I'm growing everyday. Some of you may remember I had my hand in a nightclub for a little while. I sold my interest in that, and have re-focused all my energy into this business. SMARTEST thing I have done in a few years.

Take a deep breath. If now is not a secure time for you to justify going into business for yourself, then don't. The devils advocate in me will say, there will never be a secure time, and risktakers don't wait to take risks. But with what limited knowledge I have of you, it sounds as if you are too unsure of a multitude of things to take risks at this time.

Self Confidence is the number one reason for success. Without it everyone is sitting around waiting on dumb luck. Don't be that guy, believe in yourself, it will come. :)

my advice?

Go into something you ENJOY. So even if you fail -- you had pleasure doing it. Don't go into something purely for "money".

Cuz almost EVERY thing you enjoy -- has an "industry" or "business" around it. And with industry, there's always potential for doing something better, providing good services, making money, etc.

For me. I always loved entertainment, media, film. So i got into that -- albiet from a different angle. It became fun and entertaining. If you're into horse-riding -- start a biz specialing in that. Even if it's a magazine, or tours on horses. You'll find the entrepreneurial journey even easier if it winds up becoming fun and exciting while you're doing it.

I never put my $0.02 in. So here it is:

Your mistake is that you think you are going to get a break or luck. Truth is you are not. Nothing falls into your lap.

It may seem like it does to some people, but what is actually happening is the unexpected payoff from having repeatedly done the right thing and made the correct decisions. When you are on the right track, that happens. It seems like 'getting breaks' but what is really happening is that when you kiss enough frogs eventually you get a princess.

So don't wait for doors to open up - you gotta knock them down.

Thanks guys...I really appreciate the words....and I think pitbull nailed it with "having my hand in too many pots"....I've been known to do that....but it is just my way of trying to experience alot of different things...I need to get a handle on that.

One of the things I know I need to do is get out of the negative enviroment I am in now.

You were a drug rep? Which company? Highest selling rep I ever knew was a guy who was a Prilosec rep - he is now the global marketing director for Novartis.

I do a lot of work in pharma. What company were you with? PM me if you want...what a small world.

Two, started at Eli Lilly, and then Johnson and Johnson.
