Making your own equipment?

I've been thinking more and more about learning how to weld so I can make my own equipment.

Anyone here make their own stuff?

At this point I'm just trying to figure out what the initial outlay would be for a class, equipment, etc...

I know there used to be people on the powerlifting board who used tomake their own. Unfortunately I cant remember names but you might try asking over there.
