Making Atlas Stones questions...

For anyone that has made their own stones using the molds: (Either Lance's or another one.) How did you get the concrete into the mold itself?

I will probably mix it in a wheelbarrow, but I am curious how you got it into the little hole at the top without getting all over everything.....The hole in the pics only looks to be a few inches wide.

Thanks,
Joker

We made a mold of plaster, but the hole was still small.

Basically... we mixed the cement in a wheelbarrow, wore some rubber gloves and packed it all in by hand. Just be sure to pack it in deep and hard, lol.

It's not too difficult if you use your hands.

You must have mixed it pretty thick, right?

How much of a mess did it make? The reason I ask, is I will be most likely doing this in my garage. I want to take appropriate actions to keep as much of it a possible from the garage floor itself.

Thanks:)

yep, we mixed it pretty thick. Did it in my friend's front yard, I dont think there was much of a mess.

Stone came out great too.

Thanks man.:)

I wanted to do the ball and plaster method, but just can't find the right size ball. The Mikasa I have won't get big enough to do all the balls, and I just bought a 40" playball. Ummmm.....40" is a lot bigger than I thought....*LOL* My son now has a ball that is bigger than he is......

Probably gonna go for a set of Lance's molds now.

Thanks for the help, man. Much appreciated.

The mikasa balls are pretty flexy, so you might be able to overinflate it to the circumference you want it.

That was exactly my plan. However, as the ball got close to the size I wanted, it started losing it's shape badly. I was well on my way to making an "Atlas Egg" the way I was going.:D

That became one of my son's toys, too.*LOL*

We made a 242 out of a Dora the Explorer ball at work this semester:)

we ordered them from lance...he is one hell of a guy with EXCELLENT customer service

I'm still waiting on my other molds...but we have made a 275 and 300

basically we mixed it in a wheel barrel and use a funnel and a small sand toy shovel. We did this for half of the 275 stone then we got more efficient:

i knelt down at the ball, made a funnel with my hands and my dad just used the big shovel we used to mix the cement and would just dump a huge shovel full ontop of the stone as i moved my hands towards the hole to get all the cement in

chances are that I will get the molds first so maybe i'll make a video and show you how we do it if you can get another person.
