You should've seen how many new cases were developed AFTER the lost the first one.

Shadow - The cases are likely for various reasons. Then there's the issue . . . where do you hold these cases? If I was Merck, I would do it one by one and drag it out (there's only so much someone suing for no damn reason can pay in legal fees).

I bet more than half are related to "heart problems".....I would think that a class action based on a certain parameter offers benefits to both sides..

The FDA keeps things off the market (via lack of approval, wanting to wrongly classify supplements, etc) to benefit the drug companies too.

I think that benefits the drug companies more than the FDA fighting these cases.

While that is true, its the role of the FDA to NOT allow dangerous compounds on the market....they should stand behind their research to keep specialsinterest/lobby movements honest, and not allow them to "sway" the findings.

Class action lawsuits are great for lawyers. All the paperwork has already been done-- all they need is the client, and to get a signature. They piggyback off each other and share the work.

Very few of them win though, cuz few atually see trial. MOst lawyers file it, hopeing for a out of court settlement. Usually pay for the victim's medical expenses plus lawyer fees.

Where does that stop? . . I think processed sugar is the most dangerous compound of all (IMHO) . . . should someone with diabetes be allowed to sue the FDA for allowing processed sugar to be sold on the market?

Should all of the government agencies that grant approval on something be held liable if there is a problem?
