So a family member asked me the other day what is the best form of magnesium supplement to take. Everytime she has her chemistries checked, her magnesium is always low. Her physician put her on magnesium oxide, which is causing her to have loose stools. She asked me what form of magnesium is the best for supplementation, and I honestly don't know. All we use is magnesium sulfate for IV form (which I'm most familiar) and magnesium oxide in pill form. That's what's on our hospital formulary.
I think magnesium chloride/lactate/gluconate, etc. are absorbed better, but I haven't a clue which is best and which has the least side effects.
Any suggestions from any naturopaths out there?
