I have family in Rosarito. Baja is not bad, though the violence does occasional spill into TJ. I end up in Baja a couple times a month. Some of the family in Rosarito recently relocated from Michoacan, where my wife's family owns a considerable amount of land. They are not interested in going back to check on their property anytime soon.
Stay away from border towns other then that your fine. I've never had a problem there ever. Stop being a pussy.

Baja is a border town and I have not ran into any problems there. I believe Texas border towns would be the ones with the most problems. I read about a week ago that the Zetas would not allow Monterey's high school football team to cross into Texas for their annual game without a little extortion money. They ended up cancelling the game. I'm surprised we haven't heard about the kids getting their throats slit and having their bodies quartered yet.
Fuckkkkk Los zetas are such a problem in the border towns. I feel bad for the innocent people in Mexico who get caught up in their crossfire. And the media is even worse, they make it seem a lot worse then it is, which has ruined mexico's tourism!

Yup, been going to Cancun/Playa every year for last 10yrs and never even remotely ran into any trouble. I usually rent a Jeep and drive back and forth from the two so I've been off the beaten path and still no issues.
