Did 4g per day before, 500mg per big meal sometimes 1000mg if carbs were over 100g. I lowered the dose(money...) and are now taking 250mg per meal with 60-70carbs and been ,doing this for quite a while now. Can't really notice any difference from the higher dose, maybe the high dose ALA is a bit overated. For big meals with 80-90g of carbs I take 500mg, breakfast, lunch and dinner. In between these meals I have about 3 other smaller meals with 250mg.
