Losing a friend , a pet or a relative is quite a painful experience ..

How do you cope with the loss of someone who you loved? Losing a pet for me is quite dramatic and when I look at his/her photo I would start to shed a tear and to remember the good times we had together.

Lately I lost a pet and a dear older friend, namely a lady who was like a mother for me....Many times when I go to bed I think at her and how nice she was when she was alive...

I do what I can to absorb their best qualities, using them as they'd use them.

Out to sea and Darktooth ((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))

Read this:

Rainbow Bridge:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I lost my first dog, when I was 5. Horrible. Then when I was 19 my 1 1/2 year old puppy got hit by a car and died.

Most recently I had a 4 month old kitten that died of FIP. It was very sudden and extremely painful. He died in my arms. I loved them all very much.

If you need to talk, PM me! XOXOXO

I would highly advise you NOT to relate losing a pet to becoming a widow or losing a child. When a woman loses her husband it does not help her to know you have empathy for her situation when you begin your sentence with, "When my cat died..."

If two parents have just lost their child they are going to think you are insane or an idiot if you come up to them and relate to their grief with, "When my dog died... I'd had him since the second grade."

The loss of a pet, while a very great loss, is not an appropriate experience to relate to someone in deep grief. It is an unintended insult. It tells the person you are talking to that you actually don't have much life experience and that you cannot really relate to their loss (otherwise you wouldn't put losing a pet in the same category.)

Hey SofaGeorge,

I think we would all most certainly agree to that!!! For one of my classes about 4 years ago I did a presentation on the loss of a pet. My teacher would only allow me to do it if I made the distinction that a pet's death in no way compares to the death of a human being. I don't think anyone here is dumb enough to go up to someone who has just lost a close friend, relative, etc and say...well I can relate, cause when my dog died, blah, blah. Thankfully I have never had anyone close to me die, except for my animals. Out to Sea wanted advice on getting over all kinds of greif, including the death of a pet. I hope you weren't offended by anything I said.

People expect to lose their Pets as they only live a short lifespan
People expect to lose a Parent and then both eventually as they get old.

Losing a friend or sibling is a shock especially if the friend/sibling is Young

People do NOT expect to lose their Child at any age. It is way un-natural and probably the most traumatic thing ever to happen to
a person.

I cannot even fathom going on if I lost my only child.

I have been through the loss of my best friend, and love of my life. To this day when I hear a laugh like hers I will catch myself looking for her. The scent of jasmine can still make me smile and cry at the same time. Any time I hear a lady talk with a Charleston accent, I think of her and the way I used to tease her about her's. Even though I teased her about it, I still loved to hear her talk.

She may be gone, but she will always be with me.

You'd be amazed. Once they get to the point they can laugh about it people in grief support groups will ALL relate the experience of how many times someone tried to be sympathetic and came up to them and said, "When my cat died..."

You have to laugh about it (eventually) but at the time it isn't the best thing to hear.

Losing someone loved is heart-wrenching for me and I only find consolation in looking at the pictures or remembering the good times we had together.

In the outside I pose as a tough guy but my inside is coated with sympathy and a lot of love for those who I care about. But what I loathed the most is the fact that my lost pet didnt just died for natural causes ; she might have been killed by some evil , pseudohuman being...

I know for a fact..and this is tearing me apart..HOW COULD YOU KILL A CAT FOR GOD SAKE??
