Welcome to Elite. Online questionaires are all well and good (or maybe not) but I've found there's more information to be had by asking your own questions than by answering someone else's. :)

Summer officially starts on the 21st June. You have two months, 10 lbs per month, 2.5 lbs per week. No problem. Make sure you have a good exercise program to go with that good diet.

how can u lose 2.5 lbs per week :supercool

You can lose it by being about 9000 calories underfed on the week. 2-3 pounds per week is a pretty standard kind of weight loss for someone dieting. Bear in mind also that there's typically an initial water loss when you first get your diet in check.

20lbs by summer? June? Hell you could probably do that in 3-4 weeks bro if you buckle down. No need for silly online question and answer BS.

Fast weight loss isn't necessarily a good thing. 2-3 pounds per week is a significant deficit, if you went for 1/week instead the composition of the loss would more fat. If you lose too fast you may end up smaller but still fat.

The OP didn't really say much about himself. If he's just a normal dude off the street then 2-3 pounds a week is a pretty restrictive diet but not really too harsh. It is pretty much the standard weight loss that dieters aim for not to overstress themselves.

If he's a reasonably untrained gym-goer and starts throwing weights around he might have a hard time making that weight loss as his body tries to grow muscle. With plenty of cardio and a decent diet it's still fairly attainable.

If he's reasonably fit, already has his muscles, etc. then you're right and he'll likely not make that kind of weight loss over two months consistently. At least, not without a chemical assist.

My guess is that he's some just guy who's been scouring the net for diet and exercise. If it motivates him enough to start going to the gym and get his body into condition then the effort and lifestyle change will give him what he needs but maybe not what he currently desires. At that stage he might find that his actual body weight matters a lot less than his body composition and then there'll be one more of us and one less of them.

I think it's not healthy to focus on pure weight loss because it turns a blind eye to composition.

for instance, if he wanted to lose 20 lbs at all cost, he could do it. If he's lucky it'll be 2/3 fat.

Why not just cut the calories a little, focus on protein, add cardio and keep lifting. He'll probably lose 5-10 in the same timeframe, but there will be a far better net change in composition.

Agreed and I think that what happens to most people who decide to lose a ton of weight and take up exercise to do it is that they end up rethinking their goals as they start to gain a little muscle. The problem is that the vast majority of the population think only in terms of weight and not body composition.

How many of us have come through a program with a few pounds of extra muscle only to meet someone we've not seen for a while who complements us on how much weight we've lost? This being despite the fact we know we weigh more than the last time they saw us.

If this is some average joe who has just noticed that he's allowed it to slip for too long and gone into a weight panic then that's how he's thinking. What he really needs is a lifestyle change but probably doesn't know that yet. I don't think he's a lifter. Still, if he posts again we'll know for sure.
