Looking for a PT jobL: Tutoring?

Does anyone think there's a market for tutoring kids 1st-6th grade? I live in a very large city and was considering putting an ad in the paper to tutor children from their homes at a rate of $13/hour.

Yes, there definitely is as long as you have the credentials (i.e. university degree).

Word of mouth is what will give you the business you desire.

Credentials is what I was worried about. I'm still in college. I get along great with kids though. I tutored for the last 2 years of high school and 5 days a week in the summer I worked in a program for urban kids for them to stay out of trouble. (playing sports with them, taking them to movies, public swimming pools, etc.)

That is what you will use, then. Start with the kids of people you know, then branch out. Tell everyone you know that you are looking to tutor....everyone! You never know, they may just need you or know someone that may need you. Create your resume and be very professional about it.

I use to tutor a great deal. Mostly Jr. High and HS kids in math. It was fun and the money was good. 2thick is on target with the networking your skills.

You might want to network directly with schools, too. Keep in mind parents are scared these days because of the rash of kidnappings/murders. You might want to get clearance with the school first, such as a background and security check, and from there you can build your business. I know as a parent I wouldn't want my child tutored by just anyone, kwim?
