do you have any more specific info. on what it is you are looking for? would you say you are pretty much a beginner?

one book that every aspiring entrepreneur should read IMO is Think & Grow Rich. timeless information that has inspired millions.

That is the #2 most popular book among self-made millionaires, only surpassed in popularity by (surprise) The Bible.

I will have to check out the one recommended have you read the book Good to Great? I keep meaning to pick it up. Any thing you recommend on sales strategy books I have read spin selling and took a seminar I haven't really found it that effective with the types of products I sell but I can see it being applicable in other markets.

my girlfriend's boss recommended Good to Great, I read a few pages in the bookstore.
what type of products do you sell? Is the company just you or do you have employees? I believe the book Good to Great is for mid-size companies looking to make a leap, but I could be mistaken.
Yes definitely check out Think & Grow Rich, oldie but goodie, timeless :)

I don't have my own business yet Bran right now I work for a communication port manufacture my sales territory is the Eastern U.S. I am always looking for ideas and ways to generate new business in my territory I am given a lot of freedom and the potential for big $$$ is relatively unlimited.
I do want to open my own business eventually I had been looking into opening a franchised sport supp store but haven't had a whole lot of luck with banks. So it is sort of on the back burner tell I get a business plan together for it. I also need to do some more research into government grants etc there is a lot here for small business's.

ok so you are looking for sales books (like closing techniques?) for now, or books that teach you how to drum up new business?
---------
about your sports business, is that what the banks are telling you is holding you back? the business plan?

this is a great reference book to tell you how to deal with the sports situation

The Portable MBA in Entrepreneurship, 3rd Edition
Here is the amazon link (looks like you can get a used copy for $18):

Zig Ziglar wrote a great book on closing sales -- called 101 closes I think.

You would benefit from reading Ayn Rand.

One does not read a book to learn about business; there is no "how to guide". It is a mindset - it's not just 'work your butt off', but an understanding of the forces at play and some history of the theories of commerce.

I highly recommend "Capitalism: the unknown ideology" and "The Virtue of Selfishness".

These books are theoretical grounding in the concepts of business - very broad strokes, that you need to experience and inculcate into your thought process.

They are essay collections, so you can skip around when bored.

Read. enjoy.

Think and Grow Rich is definitely great. Also, The Millionare Next Door and of course Rich Dad, Poor Dad.

three gimmicks.

think and grow rich - made money for the writer only

millionaire next door - how to have a million dollars at age 114 (ok 57)

rich dad poor dad - guilt trips for people who never made eough money to get rich anyway

just my opinions.

disagree with matt about think and grow rich, know too many rich people who swear by it!

totally agree on millionaire next door :)

rich dad poor dad - if you've never had a course on anything relating to accounting or financial matters - basic assets/liabilities stuff but states your house isn't an asset like most people say it is because it costs you money each month, and explains concept of owning business that runs without you, versus working for one or working at one that takes up all your time.

Can't wait to get the Ayn Rand stuff!!!

a heads up for you guys

found The Virtue of Selfishness on Amazon.com used for $1.75, lots of copies there

and Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal (I think matt had a typo in his title up there) for $3.75 used

Interestingly, these two titles are offered in a package together for $15.98 brand new

Matt: Her most famous titles are Atlas Shrugged and Fountainhead, no? I haven't read any, do you recommend reading them in any certain order?

I would recommend reading them both in due course, however, the ones I referenced are essay collections so they are brief and more focused.

Ayn Rnd's first language was not English, so the novels are kind of "wooden" s story development is sort of..."off". But the essays are right on and right to the point.

The order of the novels does not really matter - Atlas Shrugged is IMO more relevant to this board.

It's all about perspective. You will get it from these books.

rich dad, poor dad is a scam. It has "gimmick" written all over it. Just the name exudes a promped-up window dressing infomercial crap type of item.

think and grow rich is a great book. you just gotta really analyse it good. It's not an easy book to read. It gets really deep and involved. Lot of people aren't used to reading "turno f the century" type literature. It's almost like a scientific book in the way it's written.

"Winning with Integrity" by Leigh Steinberg. Teaches you how to handle and deal with people (humans). If you don't even know that -- unless your business is solely 100% online and you never have to talk to a human ever -- read this book. Dayum good.

emperor in training orb, atlas shrugged is over 1,000 pages!

ah well, hope it will be a well spent week of my life :lmao:
