Longevity of Flax oil?

Hello all, quick question for you. I was in a whole foods store today picking up some flax oil and I came across a 16 oz bottle of Spectrum Flax oil that stated, "Freshness guaranteed until 06.14.05” Well, to make a long story short I bought my normal 32 oz bottle and brought the little bottle to the counter and talked to the gal ringing me out. I asked her, "Hey if you guys are just going to chuck this thing, do you mind if I take it?" She called her manager and the lady was cool, just grabbed a sharpie and scribbled all over the UPC code and gave me the bottle!

My question to you all is how is the efficacy of cold pressed flax oil relative to its "freshness date?" Obviously my eyes aren't going to pop out if I use the stuff, but did I score a sweet deal or what?

I know flax oxidizes easily (and tastes rancid afterward). careful with that thing

if it was not in the fridge, its already questionable. It spoils quickly after opening as well, even refridgerated- reccomend consumption within 2-3 weeks max (on bottles that are fresh).

not trying to hijack..but does your guys flax have a bitter taste? My 1st bottle I got, I had ordered from DPS and it was really bitter. After it ran out I went to a local place and got some and it's still gross but not bitter.

I bought a bottle of flax *months & months* ago, refrigerated it after opening & it's *still* good....does NOT smell bad or taste funny at all...

if its bitter it may be by product of the extraction or it may be rancid. It should not have a bitter taste.

if its kept cold it wont taste bad, but that does not mean that oxidation is not taking place.

note- the reccomendation above is one to get the purest and thus best results. It will still be OK, if other, but thats just MHR.
