LOL - Nice Hang Power Clean :)

Allow me CCJ,

Makedah.........The form is pretty hurrendous. I am not a powerlifter persay and it is not yet my forte but that guy in the background needs to go back and exercise the fundamentals. For real.

I'm thinkin' that it just looks like the kid is about ready to do the splits as he performs the hang/clean. That ain't good.

Okay - so he's popping his legs open when he "catches" the weight. That did look odd to me.

What else looks odd to my untrained eye is that the motion lacks fluidity. The little triple-step before the press, for example.

I don't want to just rip the guy apart because lord knows who has a camera on ME when I'm trying a new move. I'm thinking in particular back to the day when I was testing hang snatches. Oh boy! :D But really - I'd like to know more about this "Don't."

i guess they are done from the "hang" But i cant tell from that angle (plus the guy in the foreground throws my attention) it looks like the start position is really bad. Too high above the knee, no back arch. The pull is comming from his upperbody with no power comming from his legs.

he will have no knee caps in a years time by the looks of the catch

I too was wondering about his improper form. My form probably ain't the best on cleans but I couldn't tell what all he was doing wrong.

where is the startig point on hang cleans? I have done these before, but I would start just above the knees so that I am pulling with my back and a little bit of legs. am I okay with this form?

Okay, watched this vid again.

The kid is "muscling" the weight up. Watch very carefully. There is practically no explosiveness to his lift. Which there should be. O-lifts are not static.
And that means, the kid should be using a lighter load to work on the basic technique of this lift.

slinky - ahhh.

Thriller - I don't know that he's new. I'm just saying -- I've exhibited some horrible form in the gym myself, we don't know what the story is here. Well, maybe CoolColJ does! :D

Why are we all here disecting someone who is not here to defend himself?

It's a critique of form. Perhaps it will help someone else with their form. Just because this guy isn't here to argue (although what he would argue I don't know, the form is bad), doesn't mean we can't talk about it.

If you see someone make a bad decision driving, like running a red light, you can tell your kids "Don't do that, he just ran a red light and could have gotten hit." The guy who ran it isn't there but that doesn't mean you can't talk about it.

Well I can see the helping of others as a good reason, but I think we should leave the laughing and joke making out of it. Learn from it....just do not make fun. I am sure we could all find something to laugh at in our own form.

Trust me, I ain't laughing at the guy in the video.

Let me explain. Not too long ago, my boyfriend and I were at the gym for our clean, snatch day. As usual, we went on over to the platform, but there were three other guys there already, performing a version of the clean from the hang. These three guys had the bar loaded with two bumper plates on each end, and their form were similar to this kid's. With the addition of completely "bumping" the weight off of their thighs. Form was horrible.

What's worse is that these same three guys showed some other chick in the gym their version of this exercise. Luckily, she approached us, and we have since corrected her form (she trained with us for a day) - in time, so that these "bad habits" didn't become a regularity.

So, again, I ain't laughing.

Well I downloaded one of the Vertimax promo vids from their site, and this bit hit me in the face, and yes I started laughing, so I cut it out and put it here for you guys.

Even the guy at the front isn't using the Vertimax properly ;)

Well its funny to me - I mean I'm so used to seeing proper form, that when its wrong it really hits ya :)
Really none of the vids on the net show the way it should look, even mine :p

Watch some fo the Ironmind tapes and you will be blown away!

He probbaly brags about how much he cleans.
Well instead of dipping, he split, then he pretty much reverse curls it up, no hip, no shrugging and his lower back must ache afterwards!

Nice gym though! Dang I'd kill to have access to bumper plates and a platform
