Liver Biopsy?

there are 3 types of liver biopsies:
1) the most common one is the one where the doc will take a needle and jab your liver with it, removing liver tissue in the process. multiple samples can be taken (mutiple jabs) to ensure they get a good picture of what is going on with the liver since damage may not be homogeneous.
2) laparoscopic biopsy. the doc inserts a tube through the abdomen which can be used to image the liver and ultimately remove tissue.
3) transvenous biopsy. in this one, the doc will put a catheter through a vein in the neck that leads to the liver. through this tube, material can be removed. this one is usually done when there's blood-clotting problems or fluid in the abdomen (ascites).
in all cases, the liver material is assayed for liver enzymes, amount of fat, scarring, etc.
there are some inherent risks and complications (such as infection, or knicking the gallbladder or lung) but these are pretty rare. generally the whole procedure takes ~20mins (freezing plus the actual biopsy) with a 1-2hr recovery.

What is your cycle history like with orals anyhow? I am curious what amount of orals over what period of time has your values up to the point of no return.
I am also curious if you took any liver protectants when you took 17aa's.

Any idea what happened to your liver values then?
I had one done last year, they make you hold your arm over your head and hold it,they go through your rib cage with a plunger like needle and suck a piece of your liver in it. Then you have to lay on your side for about 5 hoursJKurz1 said:

I had a liver biopsy in 2000. That needle optimus b was talking about was no joke. The needle was real long. I bit down on a wash-cloth,they stuck me twice, went in-between my lower ribs-it was terrible. I was completely jaundiced for 2 months from Winstrol V. In turn I call myself Dirty V, I can dig up the reports to tell you what the diagnosis was.

I was wondering, you said you various liver enzymes were just about 10 obove the normal. That is very strange. GOT,GTP or GGT of 60-70 do not deserve liver biopsy just yet. Unless there were other indications of possible liver damage.

good analogy.
A couple years back I had a value in that same panel elevated 3 times the normal level
and my Dr. ordered an ultra sound and found all to be well. I was told at that time that if they had found an adnomality in the ultra sound that a biopsy would be the next procedure.
I have found my liver panels always come back higher if i do cardio in the morning before the blood work is done.
At the time I had this blood work done I had been off for a year and never had used any orals and I remember a reading in the high 90s and normal is in the 30s.
and my Dr. ordered an ultra sound and found all to be well. I was told at that time that if they had found an adnomality in the ultra sound that a biopsy would be the next procedure.
