I know some of you guys like linux a lot, but it's way too complicated for the averge person.

I made a seperate linux box just to screw around with and everything is way too difficult.

Seems like it could be made to be easier to use.

It takes some getting used to.

I probabaly didn't give it enough of a chance but I was using Mandrake.

I don't know shit about writing code or any thing but it just seem like it could have been made easier to use.

The interface look cool and fresh, but nothing worked like it look like it should, atleast not for me.

I couldn't even get a cd rom to run(mostly cause I was afraid of messing something up).

I'll try to mess around with it later.

Everything in linux is a file. There are no drive letters like in windows. To use a cd you have to mount it to a directory first. To do this you need to know which ide channel the cd drive is on and whether it's master or slave. Ide channel one master is called hda. Ide channel one slave is called hdb etc etc. If hda is split into multiple partitions than they would be labeled hda1 hda2 hda3 etc. So anyways, to mount a cd that was master on the second ide channel, you would first need to create a directory to mount it to. The normal spot for this is /mnt/cdrom.
Here are the commands you'd use

su (this command allows you to change to the root user)

mkdir /mnt/cdrom

mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom (this command mounts the cdrom drive, with type iso9660 filesystem, into folder /mnt/cdrom)

cd /mnt/cdrom

ls (list files)

if you cant get understand mandrake...i see some problems in your future. ;)

i started out using slackware.

its cuz you were using a weak distro, red hat and mandrake, whats up with that.
:p
Jk, its probably cause your used to windows, it just takes some time to getting used to.

I started with Deb1an and still use it to this day.
Best Linux Distro out there.

Slack is also good.

ah screw that.. might as well go back in time and use Dos.

No wonder linux will never go mainstream.

I might make a dual boot and mess with it a little and try not have an Aneurysm.

open up an irc program (BitchX, ScrollZ, mIRC, whatever) and go to irc.prison.net and join #linux.

ask for help there, that's how i learned.

No shit, who the fuck wants to type out commands like that for simple things.

After the cock-block against SOC by Microsoft, Linux will eventually be EVERYWERE!!!!

ok, right now I'm running a live evaluation version of Suse linux.

I'm running it off of the CD, it's not supposed to change my cpu at all.

It is pretty cool so far, I think I'll put this one on my future linux box.:D
