*We* kinda sorta do... If people stopped buying the tabloids, etc and stop paying so much attention to publications/web etc trash-talking these people then *POOF* those people would magically vanish from the public eye.

You're right but good luck getting everyone to do it. It's be a lot easier to just have different people doing all the hiring at Miramax or wherever. Like, if the producers simply said enough with Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan - nobody hire them anymore. And then they didn't and we got to see some new faces. That'd be cool.

It just goes to show how strange our society is. I was thinkin about this (sorta) on my way home from the gym. When was the last time you heard anything about the band Boston, yet their music is still as popular as it was back in the day. (Or maybe that is just my *old lady* perception... hell, I still hear their music on the radio and EVERYBODY knows who they are though they have not released and album or toured to my knowledge since I was back in college and that was like 5 thousand years ago.) I was thinking about all of the publicity around the marriage of Paulina Poriskova to Rick O'Casek of The Cars.... whose music is still played on the radio today but I am willing to wager that just as I am totally unfamiliar with a lot of the bands that are popular today (nevermind their personal lives) you are probably equally unfamiliar with the mention of those peoples' names as they have been TOTALLY out of the public's eye for like TWENTY YEARS.

You hardly hear of Madonnna anymore and you know damned well she is THE QUEEN of media manipulation and reinventing herself. You only hear/see from her when she is promoting one of her projects. Shit, you hardly heard a *bleep* about her and her husband adopting an Afrikaan child.

I think it has to do with how much these *stars* truly crave fame... If their publicists "invent" scandal - here the American public is clamouring to "buy it".

Seems wierd if you ask me.

Paris Hilton already has money. So I dont get it.... But then again, I also don't give a fat rat's ass.
