lifting each muscle twice a week ?

OK I want to get bigger and stronger, not like body builder size but bigger. I'm doin a 5x5 and I want to know if it would be alright for me to lift each muscle twice a week doing a 5x5 each time? Would that mess it up much? I feel like i'm not working my muscles enough this way. Somebody tell me whats up.

a) eat, eat, eat

b) a 5x5 should be more than enough to "work your muscles". review the stickies at the top of the training forum page and make sure you are performing everything right.

unless you are on steroids you shouldn't need to work anything twice a week provided you're hitting 5x5 hard enough.

be patient and eat.

You could do it if you dropped the "assist" motions. You'd also have to start the weights lower to account for the more frequent increases.

At that point you might as well do HST. ;)

Not to be a dick, but:

1--What's "bodybuilder size"? I've been to shows with little dudes around 5'3", 130 lbs. onstage. They were pretty tiny, obviously, but they'd be very insulted if someone said, "They're too small to be bodybuilders."

That said, I understand what you mean. You don't want to be a giant like Ronnie Coleman...relatively few do. Then again, fewer yet can get like that. Point being, never let a fear of getting "too big" hamper your efforts.

2--Also, when you say you feel like you're "not working your muscles enough," what is it you feel, exactly? And would I be correct in inferring that you believe there's a relationship between exhaustion and muscle growth?

It's really not important that you answer any of the above, because my response will be the same to you: follow the 5x5 faithfully. Besides, the routine will get plenty hard once you're moving massive weights.

By like a body builder size I dont exactly mean size itself. More of the body builder look during contest. And I dont want to bulk up to the size that I would have to cut for the rest of my life to keep a good defined look. I guess what I mean is a good strong larger athletic look if that makes any sense.

Yeah, he doesn't want to have to deal with getting out of shape or going through the bulking/cutting phases, but rather eat the same all year round, maintain a nice level of bodyfat while trying to pack on some more mass.

It does. I gotcha :)

That's really a function of diet. 5x5's got you covered on the training side, though, so no worries there.

5x5 followed faithfully should do good for you...stick with it and soon youll see why you cant do it twice a week
