Lift Partner....

New member
Usually lift by myself and don't really mind it any other way...

Thought I might try finding someone to lift with, just to try it out...might get some gains....(???)

How does one go about this? Should you be equally yoked...sort-to-speak?

Finding a good lifting partner is VERY difficult :worried:

it can be hard especially since you may have conflicting goals and views about how to train..I lift alone as well and i always ask someone when i need a spot..ill be damned if im going to use a lighter weight b/c of no spot..

It no easy task to find a good one. I have a great training partner I use once a week for chest. Ive been training with him (once to twice per week) for over 2 years. We trained back for a short duration, but it didnt last too long. I like long brutal sessions and hes a bench specialist and likes to be "fully" recovered for bench day. So that was too much for him. The longer you train with someone, the better they are able to spot you. So its very beneficial. The added motivation is very high also. My training partner was good deal weaker then me when we started training, but that quickly changed and now he far exceeds me on bench at 185lbs bodyweight. I initially started training with him cuz he has alot of heart and dedication, and a good amount of insanity that translates well to training. You need to find someone with a strong drive who can atleast keep up with the intensity and volume. I only use a training partner for flat bench day. I motivate myself every other day, and I get fucking pissed when I have to be around ANYONE for too long. I need the spots on this day to get any worthwhile results. Calling different people to spot me every chest day just isnt the same. Everyone touches the fucking bar!! Plus these people dont know my strength level at all. It was years before I found a training partner. Before that Id train with my uncle, who is a fucking monster, from time to time. Sometimes consistently for long periods of time. Problem with that was, the workouts were very quick (45 mins-60 mins) the volume was high. There was no rest aside from taking turns. The volume was fine, but this was more endurance training for me. Even with the heavier weights. Im much better off taking longer rests and using heavier weights. So this wasnt optimal for me. Also my uncle used mostly machines since he accumulated many injuries over the years. Machines dont seem to do much for me, by themselves anymore. I also spend alot of time in the gym, so this makes it easier to find a training partner. I wasnt even looking for one. If you ask some people, Im sure some of them would be willing to train, but youll have to test em out to see if they can keep up, and if they are worthwhile. It makes a huge difference for me though.
